The US renamed the "Department of War" to "Department of Defence" in 1947 to distance itself from the language of aggression, reflecting the post-WW2 global shift away from imperialism. Trump’s intention to return to “War” is a disturbing signal on future US military and foreign policy.
“Department of War” is a much more honest title. Trump saying the quiet part out loud, as he so often does.
