Magnolia forever. Though I haven't seen the last three.
Magnolia forever. Though I haven't seen the last three.
I enjoyed Inherent Vice, but (if I recall correctly - it is probably 15 years since I watched it) Magnolia is a more impressive work of art.
People saying they loved Liquorice Pizza. 🙁I adore PTA but that one! - thought the leads were so implausible I couldn’t get into it AT ALL
Magnolia but I believe there are only two others I have seen. movies to watch.
Licorice Pizza is AMAZING
Fun fact. Punch Drunk Love was my idea.
what??
My cousin is Emily Watson, I was at dinner with her and Paul Thomas Anderson in L.A. and I urged them both that they needed to make a comedy together. So they did. They later told this story on some Jonathan Ross cinema tv show interview.
I'd forgotten about it till then.
I knew *someone* had to take the blame.
Yeah, sorry.
Felt like nostalgic 1970s memories being implanted into my brain (I wasn't alive in the 1970s).
In my defence, they came out after I became a parent and stopped having the energy to watch or the time to commit to entire films.
Magnolia forever, but the last two are particularly wonderful too.
A strong defence. But you really should make room in your life for them all, and especially the sublime and gorgeous 'Licorice Pizza' which is as rich and rewarding as any contemporary novel.
I loved the dynamic between Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim in that film. Terrific performances by both.
I loved Licorice Pizza so much, both times. For some reason I haven't yet had the urge to see Phantom Thread, it all feels so...Serious.
It’s definitely intense, but the world he creates is enthralling - for me, at least!
Yep - great movie. One of best, even if there was no shower of frogs.
I know, it's my problem, once I got into Magnolia I didn't want it to end, I just need a bit of a run-up.
I know what you mean…I still struggle with the master, which many PTA fans rate very highly.
That's the last one I saw, and in fact only made it to halfway through. Also, I hate Punch-Drunk Love! (Calls himself a PTA fan, eh?)
Ha! I’m not a massive fan of punch drunk love, myself! That said, there’s brilliant scene in which Philip Seymour Hoffman is on the phone, which is probably worth the entry price alone.
Okay, well, first of all, with regards to PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE, you're all crazy. I may not have a "second of all." Oh, definitely see PHANTOM THREAD, all of you. It's absurd to me that you haven't at least given that one a shot.
Serious yes - but not solemn. Very...intense.
I adore the attention to detail in that film - the tailoring, the gowns, the other period pieces. It's sumptuous!
I promise I will settle down and immerse myself once the evenings start to draw in.
Phantom Thread is very good too.
