Vaccines don’t prevent infection. Vaccines are meant to produce immunological memory and antibody production, so that when you get infected, your immune system can rapidly respond to eliminate the pathogen and prevent serious complications, including death. Vaccines don’t cause autism!

Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s we did not do vaccines, only homeopathy. At one point the great Dr Marion Belle Rood looked at mother with great focus & said, “If there’s ever a pandemic, Get Vaccinated.” Today I am vaxxed up. Maybe this will help someone out there who reads it.

I know of some veterinarians who practice alternative medicine. I don't go to them but some friends do. Those vets give vaccines (singularly, not bundled) and prescribe homeopathics to counter potential vaccine side effects. I guess I'm not surprised even Rood would advise vaccines in a pandemic.

I had read this article. Crazy. Let’s not ‘test’ a hypothesis but let’s instead generate data that ‘proves’ our hypothesis. This is not how science works. Even if science in America is compromised by charlatans and idiots, I hope science in other countries will be trustworthy.

Almost there! Some vaccines (MMR, polio, HPV, smallpox) prevent infection outright; others (flu, COVID) mainly prevent severe illness and death. All vaccines build immune memory so the body fights faster.

No vaccines prevent infection outright. Even after four doses of MMR, there are some people who don't develop titers against measles. This is why we need herd immunity.

Deo @deointhesky.bsky.social

No vaccine works in 100% of people. Even with four MMR doses, a small minority don’t develop immunity, which is why herd immunity is crucial. Still, vaccines like MMR can prevent infection in most people.

Syth'thys @sithissaves.bsky.social

Whether infection is prevented has nothing to do with the vaccine itself and everything to do with the reproductive cycle of the virus. The adaptive immune system takes three days to fully respond. Measles has a 10+ day incubation. Covid's incubation can be less than two days.

& you have time on SM to quibble ? I’ve not attested to any scientific knowledge. Part one) I read somewhere that austim passes through sperm/male DNA. Part 2) speculating if little blue pill degrades sperm. Considering you’re so learned your reading & comprehension skills are wanting

I'm retired now. Yes, I have time on top of decades of reading primary source materials.

It’s generally a good maxim that if you are not knowledgeable of any particular subject, then stop right there.

Better than speculating, try reconsidering where you "read things" and learning how to assess the quality of that information. Probably more likely that autistic fathers had autistic children, and you "don't get autistic women".

badassery needed @badassbitchbrigade.bsky.social

autism isn't just gendered to males. all people of all genders can be autistic. pretty sure it's just genetic in general. what you probably read is that older sperm (older men) are more likely to have autistic children. but you're more likely to have autistic children if you are autistic. period.

Oh really ? More boys than girls have autism. Never bought into old man sperm theory. www.nih.gov/news-events/...

Unfortunately for you, if you post things on the internet, people will have opinions about them. If you want anyone to take you seriously you're going to have to bring us the scientific papers which evidence your speculation. Anywhere under the rock is fine!

Honestly, I think that the spike in autism is from people delaying having children until they are older. Not that I blame them with how expensive everything is. But 30s and sometimes 40s to have kids may be passing the expiration date.

I don’t know enough to speculate on that ! I recall seeing a news report (watch out alarmist, I’m recalling !) where one young family had 3 or 4 children & all of the kids were all on the spectrum at varying degrees. My heart goes out to parents & caregivers who do not have the resources or access

“I read somewhere” - stop speculating. You’re not advancing a hypothesis or contributing to the discussion.

Same as in Iowa with the cancer rates. Probably pesticides and toxins they spray everywhere. Of course, that little blue pill seems to hit the right timeline as well. On another note, I'm sick of all the ed ads for the generic. These guys can't even get a women now a days. They don't need a pill.

Cancer ally is another example. Even after winning a landmark case decades ago to have the water cleaned up, what still flows out of taps is chemical sludge. Agree with the ED ads .. I mean really Cock and text 6969 tells you a lot about any guy who would buy into that

Problem is all the others they take down with them. Children can't get (effectively) vaccinated against measles until 12 months. People who develop measles lose their immunity to everything else after infection.
