I'm sorry, the cost of living is up everywhere in this country. There is a housing shortage, & what is available is unaffordable to young people because wages have not increased at the same rate as production or inflation. My homeowners insurance has almost tripled in 3 years & I don't live in Fla.

Sarcasm aside, that might be more true than you think. Outside maybe five other big blue enclaves, has there been any indication at all that America is really swinging left in a meaningful way? (I’m not sure marches make that true). If there were I think we’d have seen national strikes already.

National strikes take organizing and people being politically active. That's increased over the years, but any organizing capable of a national strike was killed decades ago and is just now rebuilding.

Addendum. In 1980 social media and the internet did not exist. All it would take is a few thousand social media posts to “organize.” The problem is very few on the left in America are willing to risk anything.

To be fair, we had the voting location changed for that election and our county dems were very on top of sending out mailers and reminders in a way the republicans weren't. Still an impressive dem turnout for the district, so it supports the trend just with an asterisk.
