I have had plenty of polite and pleasant social interactions with Trumpy people, and seriously unpleasant ones with anti-Trump people. I know Trumpy people who have gone out of the way to do kind things. That doesn’t mean they haven’t made a grave moral error that is hurting so many people.

Same, and same. This kind of proposal seems to rest on the obsolete idea that we don’t really know each other. If anything, liberals and MAGA might know each other too well at this point.

Living in Texas, I have a lot of Republican friends who don't "act" MAGA but voted along party lines. I'm a yellow-dog Democrat and my friends know it. But we do not discuss politics at all - for the sake of the friendship, I think. Trump's idiocy is apparent. I think they're very embarrassed.

If you can let go of the fact they are okay with our leader being a completely inhumane prick, you can get along great. I’ve had to shove that bitter pill down deep many times since 2016.

I couldn’t work a shift in my ED if I couldn’t be polite to MAGAs and not talk politics.

That’s just it: very few people are outwardly, constantly hostile. That’s pure antisocial behavior and, regardless of one’s politics or voting proclivities, there’s a certain degree of politeness and even kindness needed to navigate daily life. It doesn’t make their politics any less repellant.
