How did it become normal in the press to think the people who want widespread false beliefs to be corrected are the condescending ones?
How did it become normal in the press to think the people who want widespread false beliefs to be corrected are the condescending ones?
And there's that smudgeness.
People hate being wrong, especially when it comes to something they like being right.
Reagan let the Fairness Doctrine expire in the 80s and the monstrosity Fox news was born. It started there, well, it started there in the US. This trick has been around for a long time all around the world.
The Fairness Doctrine never prevented lies and would not have been applicable to cable channels.
The FD didn’t require truth or prohibit lies. It merely provided that *over the air* radio and TV *stations* provide “some time” for “alternative viewpoints”. There was no requirement for the original viewpoint or the alternative ones to be fact-based in the least.
As a FCC license holder I can affirm that this statement is it true.
Because it's elitist to suggest that people who study a topic professionally might know more about it than Some Guy, so the opinion of Some Guy must always be respected. Personally I think people who think that way should have their heart surgery done by a mechanic and a janitor, see how that goes.
People don’t understand the difference between opinions and facts. That was always the issue with this way of thinking. Opinion - My favorite color is red because it’s the best color. That’s subjective and thus inarguable. Fact - Gravity holds us on Earth. That’s objective and could be argued if
evidence suggested otherwise. 🤷🏻♀️ The reason it sounds crazy to argue against gravity is that it’s a fact about something tangible we all experience similarly. When we don’t experience the facts, MAGAts begin to confuse them with opinions.
Because they like the people telling the lies and want to help the liars win elections.
1. Don't justify telling the truth; facts are facts 2. Call a lie a lie, don't equivocate 3. Normalizing propaganda makes them propagandists; they aren't journalists, they're reality TV hacks. 4. Don't give an inch
When did it become normal for politicians to lie all the time?
When did it become a career norm to validate your readers’/viewers’ feelings based on incorrect beliefs?
And from the “facts don’t care about your feelings, snowflake” crowd!
2016.
Like the point of journalism is to give an accurate picture of what’s going on in the world because no one can find all that out on their own.
