If parents insist on using the government as their free nanny then a simpler system would of been forcing it as an OPTION at the ISP level. You OPT IN, for free, if you want it. Those of us that don't require it don't opt in. Simple.

We, well you as you have a massive following, need to also point out the #TeaApp breach. The UK #Gov claiming the #ID system is safe need to look at the #Tea App breach and all the IDs of women that has leaked. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

At least a few of those searches may be from people trying to figure out how they can watch major sporting events (eg Tour de France, Test Cricket) without paying £40 per month for some kind of subscription.

What confuses me is talk about banning VPNs. This can’t be serious given how much they are a standard security feature in all public sector organisations?!

It's impossible to compare the two figures: while we know the number of people (in G.B., or does "Brits" include N. Ireland?), we don't know how many of them used V.P.N.s. A 6,430% rise could be a fairly small number of people, & much less than 64% of the population.

Porn addicts will find a way. VPN needs verification laws too.

A comment from someone who doesn't know how the internet works. This is the problem of why the ID system was introduced. Its not how VPN works. You pay for someone to set it up for you, or just run your own. No verification needed to run your own.

If I pay for a VPN doesn’t it mean I have a ‘means of payment’ that means I have ID? My Adblock software has a subscription VPN option

Not the type of ID they are after as cards can be stolen. But so can IDs. Mark my words, there WILL be a breach like the Tea app and all those IDs will then be on the underground market for ID theft.

To be fair I pay for my ISP by Direct Debit, which means I’m bank account age. And I give out the WIFi only if I choose. So I’m not sure I get how the whole thing is supposed to work

Using ID systems to enforce censorship like China or North Korea instead of educating and helping parents is silly. It starts with porn but it will end up with you losing Social Credit System points for not clicking “like” on your local councillors Facebook golfing posts.

In the former VPNs are the norm, people happily using Gmail accounts😉 It is almost as if no one in govt. or their advisors have ever used the internet or a computer, leaving those tasks to a poorly paid underling....

Being caught with an illegal VPN is 100 Yuan to 5 years… I would go there with a blank phone and nothing to warrant a trip to a reeducation camp in Guatemala… Oups, sorry, wrong strongman regime.

Isn’t this making it the tech companies’ responsibility? They have to confirm that the users are over 18? They can’t do that by magic so they have to ask you to prove it.

Count Otto Van Shanoo @potusidiot.bsky.social

No. It's the government being forced to do the work the companies should be doing, and paying for, themselves. All we have now is a massive overkill and the tec companies just carry on doing whatever they want in the name of profit.
