Imagine we’re in the trenches of WW2 and some Allied soldier is picking his toenails instead of shooting back at the Germans. And these people want us to just tell soldiers like this they’re good enough and doing amazing work.

An aside: interviews shortly after close combat in WW2 found that only about 20% of soldiers fired their weapons at the enemy. They wouldn't do it, but instead helped comrades, carried ammunition, etc.
