I guess if I was a member of Congress I would be pretty unhappy that an agency leader talk to me informally would be considered a fireable offense.

I think a political appointee turning to friends in Congress in an effort to stymie the policy goals of the White House is a fire- able offense in *any* presidential administration. Appointees, after all, serve at the pleasure of the President.
But it's a smart move to stay until she has received official notice of being fired. Because now Trump has a choice to make. He can expend political capital over RFKjr, or he can dump him. Either way, she's generated big headlines over the politicization of the CDC.
And the stakes are going up as more and Center directors and other high ranking civil servants resign.
Huh? The director of the CDC is serving the nation, not the pleasure of the President. She's not a White House advisor.
You'd agree that she wasn't leaking anything, as Kennedy claimed. Also, isn't she senior enough to speak to Senators? She's the head of a big agency.
The idea that the director the CDC is barred from speaking to a Senator who has oversight responsibilities over said agency is utterly ridiculous. How is the Senate supposed to be informed when the Secretary of HHS is behaving in a reckless manner that will literally do harm to the nation?
Also this makes Cassidy look like a pathetic little man.
Why would the head of an agency not be allowed to talk to a member of Congress? That doesn’t equal trying to “stymie the goals of the administration.” In this case, her job is to help control disease. Anything she does (or anyone she talks with) in pursuit of that is literally her job.
Let’s see what Congress does when they return next week. But I’m not holding my breath.
Bill Cassidy enabled RFKj appointment and more than most sitting Senators knows better. Worsening medical outcomes for America is on his shoulders Cassidy prob forgot hippocratoc oath "Do no harm"
This putz? He DGAF. www.politico.com/news/2022/05...
Yes, but you are assuming they care about more than their stock portfolios.
Hmm, something about a law that permits you to speak to Congress as some type of protected communication… and something to do with an agency cannot retaliate. This administration has proven time and time again, it’s either loyalty to a man, and not the constitution, or you out of a job. It’s sad.
I don't think you need a law for that. Cassidy has oversight duties over the CDC.
Sometimes the laws address this and purportedly provide protection. Though, this administration is keen on retaliation no matter what the statute might say.
Cassidy isn’t going to anything about this. He’s literally the reason why RFK is Secretary of HHS. He claimed that vaccines would be protected, but he surely knew that wouldn’t be the case. He just lied in a pathetic attempt to cling to power for power’s sake.
we should all donate to help with legal fees for those standing up to the nazis
@markzaidesq.bsky.social is this woman’s lawyer if you want to look into donating
That typo is going to be the death of me. Why can't we have an edit feature?
Wait - talking to a Senator is _leaking_? He understands it's a _science_ agency, right?
Perhaps Kennedy should think less about vaccines and more about the causes of paranoia - for his own health.
Mmmm maybe if you weren’t a feckless toadie…
So Bill Cassidy didn’t just lie to Americans, but he literally betrayed them? What a creep.
Bill Cassidy has a choice. He promised unprecedently close access and that he wouldn’t allow RFK Jr to do these things. And he’s continuing to choose silence and inaction. He should resign in disgrace
Cassidy isn’t running again, and DGAF.
Is disgrace even a thing any more? Do any of them have any shame?
