China holds the cards, the resources, the weapons, the economic advantage. Russia can’t really drag them into anything. They (China) will do the minimum to keep them in line and nothing more. China is playing the long game.

What's your point, that Russia is somehow not a threat to China because they are has-beens with little to lose? I'm not Chinese but I don't think their statecraft is as naive or as short sighted as ours was.
