talking about the specific technical details of guns is kinda bike shedding from a policy perspective. *someone* needs to know that to pass good regulation but I don't particularly think even activists do

The country has a republican infestation. This is the root cause of the inaction on so many issues, not just guns. Until people stop electing republicans, these issues will get worse.

I think the issue is that we have granular regulation - blanket “well if you want a firearm you must sign up for x license and pass y check and do z classes” or even “no firearms” would be preferable to “no guns with a barrel over 20” or under 6” or with a folding stock unless it’s wire but not if-“

If you want to precisely define what is and isn’t allowed from a technical standpoint, you really need to know the specifics. If you want to say “yeah we’re banning rifles unless you take two years of licensing classes and prove every 6 mos you still have them and they’re locked”, you totally don’t!

Yeah, the technical plans are more likely to get less pushback, though, because they’re narrower. Also, and I can say this because I come from such a place, some people use firearms to get themselves a secure food supply and security from wild animals. We really need location based policy.
