Senator Joe Manchin (a coal baron who lives on a yacht) decimated the 2022 Dem reconciliation bill, cutting ~2/3 and shredding some of the most impactful text. Any Repub senator could be this bill's Manchin. Margins are razor thin. Hold-outs could win vast concessions. Today's the day to call them.

You’re missing the key difference. Biden didn’t send his thugs to threaten Manchin, Sinema or their families.

Let's not forget Fetterass' his defection to the darkside. He once impressed me. Now he disgusts me.

Mine do not represent the people. Just their donors, because they do not have to.

I'm immediately suspicious of any coal baron who lives on a yacht. Ought to have the decency to live on dry land at least.

LoL - hoping for (but not having a strategy to exploit) a Republican Manchin (don’t forget Sinema too) is such a reflection of how politically lost we are. Oh man we are soooo hosed. Bit appreciate naming this as a Hail Mary…

The Big “Beautiful” Bill blows up the debt more than Biden’s Build Back Better agenda ever did yet the people who wanted to be “fiscally responsible” under Obama or Biden don’t seem to care anymore.

Yeah but Repubs currently have a 53-47 majority. Demos were 50-50 in 2021-22 and while it was 51-49 for them in 2023-24, Repubs narrowly controlled the House of Reps. There would need be at least 4 Repub defectors and 2 of the most moderate members (Collins, Minkowski) are 100% voting for it.

The Senate will vote all day today, section by section through the whole megabill. Any R senator could extract concessions in any of these votes. The bill will eventually go back to the House, but at that point margins are wider and R representatives less influential individually. Today's the day.

I plan to talk to my R senators' offices about money. Rs go on and on about debt and fiscal responsibility. This bill would add some $3 trillion of debt. An "R Manchin" could cut that back to < $1 trillion, and in the process avoid some 2/3 of the harm this awful bill will cause.

If you or a loved one need government help with health care, food, or utility bills, know that this bill will cut support for Medicare, food stamps, and the low-income utility bill program. Today's the day to tell R senators this is NOT OKAY.
