Libertarians are the most selfish of people
What a weird jab at the most reasonable group on the political landscape recently. The whole anti-vax nuttiness was pioneered by blue haired liberal organic vegans before it spread to maga 🫏-hats
Can you name any prominent public figures who are part of the group as you see it?
I think it’s not unfair to look at the actual presidential candidate selected by Libertarian Party to understand our priorities. NPR wrote a nice article about him last year: www.npr.org/2024/06/21/n...
According to libertarian party chair Angela McArdle “I think [Chase Oliver has] done a fantastic job of helping Donald Trump get elected, it couldn’t have been better." Forgive me for not believing he was a good faith candidate who I should be listened to
There is a rift in Libertarian Party between Mises Caucus impostors and traditional Libertarians. Needless to say she is no longer a Chair. She was butt-hurt that her orange idol got booed off-stage and Chase was overwhelmingly selected as the party nominee.
Yes well forgive me for being dubious of the libertarian party at this point
You’re forgiven lol, live and let live! We should do better than to allow a crazy like that lady take a party leadership position. No political party is fully uniform and people do say asinine things - just look at what dems are doing to their New York mayor front runner.
LOL wild
Lol no. Most of you guys hate the government cause of the CRA.
A serious party doesn't have a Republican presidential candidate speak at their convention
It’s true, I wasn’t happy he was invited and allowed to spew his hatred. However I was elated when he was booed off-stage and humiliated 👏
that was a work, buddy the boos mattered way less than the fact that the Libertarian Party invited another presidential candidate to their nominating convention
I agree with you that it wasn’t a good look 🤷♂️. If that helps ya he had no chance at nomination and couldn’t complete his speech or whatever that was.
Libertarians, like Peter Thiel and the Koch brothers, are the most reasonable political faction? Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit.
Peter Thiel endorsed Donald Trump in 2024, a *Republican* candidate. While Koch Brothers don’t seem to like Trump himself, they do have a track record of supporting and donating to *Republican* candidates. Profanities can indicate that you don’t have a logical argument…
All horses are mammals. Bucephalus was a fucking horse. Therefore, Bucephalus was a God damned mammal.
Alls I’m saying bud, if you donate money to and vote Republican you’re not Libertarian or Democrat 😂. No amount of mental gymnastics can change the facts
What definition of either of those terms precludes engaging in those actions?
You claimed that one cannot be either a Democrat or a libertarian and vote for or donate to Republicans. What definition of 'Democrat' or 'libertarian' entails that?
Okay, thank you for talking like a human again. Let’s say you associate with party X but support and vote for party Y. I’d like to assert that you belong to party Y based on your actions 🤷♂️
I understand that's what you are asserting, but the two most common means of party identification are registration and self-ID. Neither of the actions you mentioned change either of those.
What? Am I talking to a bot?
Shhhh let him throw his vote away
What’s throwing a vote away to some, means voting those principles for others ✌️
I'm genuinely glad you have those principles but do you, like. know any other libertarians
“No libertarian would ever vote for a Republican” that’s absolutely right, stick to your values buddy
Libertarians not beating “Republicans who like weed” allegations But apparently you have be eaten by a bear in NH to be a real libertarian—you can’t just found & serve on the board of libertarian think tanks, super PACs &magazines, or, for Charles Koch, literally be a registered libertarian
Lol at the bear wrestling in NH!! It’s much easier to think of us this way: liberal on social issues, conservative on fiscal issues. This is why being compared to republicans… stings! We want to smoke weed at our lesbian friend’s wedding in a sales tax free state.
David Koch was once the Libertarian vice presidential candidate.
He was in 1980, then in 1984 he switched to Republican Party and never looked back. Kind of like DJT going from card carrying Democrat to Republican king Trump? Seems like Republican Party attracts all the “best” 😂
He switched because he thought that the 1984 libertarian platform of zero taxes would harm the ability to achieve libertarian goals, and, again, has spent decades at Cato, Mercatus, Reason, etc. Come the fuck on. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_ne...
So in other words he switched to Republican party because he didn’t like Libertarian party views on taxes?
No, because of a strategic disagreement about how to achieve libertarian policy. Don’t be tedious
If you want to make that extremely strenuous connection, then analogously did DJT leave democrats because of a strategic disagreement about how to achieve a liberal policy? If you vote Republican, give money to Republican candidates, you are a Republican. Why is it tedious - seems super simple!
Really, blue haired liberals? I am blocking 🚫 and reporting You comrade. Now get the fuck out of here with that stupid Repo bullshit
Libertarians were the loudest voices against vaccine mandates and any kind of mask restrictions during the pandemic, those assholes are a blight on the country.
Were they voting for libertarian candidates? Or were they typical maga sheep running their mouth and voting Republican? Real libertarians believe that the government should stay out of gynecologist office, not that you are permitted to spread a deadly disease unchecked 🙄
Nice try but this absolutely describes "real libertarians", like most of the Libertarian Party, or prominent libertarian economists like Bryan Caplan
I bet they don't even like oats.
I love that you bring Bryan Caplan into the conversation! He is indeed a real Libertarian unlike the other magats mentioned on this thread. However Bryan is far from anti-vaxxer and in fact supports pro-medical approach in fighting COVID-19 epidemic: www.betonit.ai/p/covid-poli...
Libertarians have long been associated with alternative medicine and anti-vax beliefs. All you have to do is look at Info Wars and Natural News.
Info-wars is a far-right conspiracy website. Natural News is a pseudo-science website. Care to explain how your brain linked those sites to such core libertarian principles as: low taxes, LGBT rights, personal choices in family planning, or rights to bear arms?
many fascist morons pretend to be or think they are libertarians. all the libertarians i know who were Very Serious Big Brained Boys were overjoyed when trump won, so i think even if your principles were coherent, you all are gonna abandon them to be trad conservatives pretty quickly
I’m not going to play this game that libertarians do. They are associated with libertarians because they a) describe themselves as libertarians and b) a lot of people who describe themselves as libertarians read their stuff
Just because you say a lie on the internet, it doesn’t make it the truth 🤷♂️
This is a legitimately insane thing to believe.
I wouldn't say it's insane: it's very common among relatively educated people from the coastal regions, especially those with centrist or can conservative leanings. It is however ironic in this case that their concern for the facts does not extend to the social sciences.
I’ve shared a book reference that is commonly used in vaccine hesitancy research: Science Left Behind. The vaccine hesitancy by the right leaning demographic is a relatively new thing - mostly accelerated by COVID-19 disinformation that Conman Grandpa desperately needed to get back in power.
Unless this book claims that the political left is the origin of vaccine skepticism, and provides data to support that claim, it's not relevant to your claim. And if it does provide such data, you could simply point to that.
It does, that’s what I’m pointing you to, amigo 🙂. I found this book while researching peer reviewed papers on vaccine hesitance phenomenon. It’s a common reference. Cleary maga has taken anti-vaxx hysteria to whole new crazy level. However it did start with left leaning “natural” lifestyle folks.
And is there a specific study this book cites, or does it simply declare it to be the case?
An excellent question which I’m not going to spoil an answer to ;) This book covers the dangers of ignoring the science while claiming to be the party of science. I recommend you being open minded to reading it, including the reference section which you should absolutely scrutinize.
I'm not going to read a whole book to help support someone else's argument.
But there's good reason to be skeptical of this claim absent additional information, as this study shows vaccine resistance to go back to the origins of vaccines, and to have a variety of justifications not tied to any particular political ideology. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36298459/
