I guess malaria was feeling left out & decided to enter the chat... Locally acquired malaria case in Washington. How it happened--unknown & up to conjecture. Range of disease will change right along with climate though, fyi. www.kiro7.com/news/local/p...

A several years ago, an old ex (geology) asked me to look over where he was going to situate his family to avoid the effects of climate change. He dealt only w sea level increase. He didn't like my answer that his idea location was still going to be susceptible to infectious disease.

It could literally fly in. Or that, as time goes on, those ranges will likely change for more infectious diseases. Toss in habitat encroachment, physiologically unwell animal species due to their inability to adapt rapidly enough to climatic changes, & he was most unhappy with my answer.

Not surprised. Last summer there were so many mosquitos up there. Dengue coming next.

I hate saying this but dengue has already expanded its range to the southernmost states in the US through the northward movement of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Already been happening. 😔
