How was church today? (12th Sunday after Pentecost edition) ⚓️
I went to a cafe church event organised by a neighbouring church. It was... interesting. A nice idea, with some good touches but (to my mind) a little too close to being just a normal service with coffee and cakes thrown in to really hit the spot. But as a first attempt, it had potential!
It was great! @ithinkicam.bsky.social came to visit!
Really good. Several students even though school hasn’t yet started at UCSB. Preached about lament. Sang a Mary Gautier song “Mercy Now.” So surprising and good.
Very good! Including the newly ordained priest, from the Bishop to three acolytes, we had 19 men and women "in uniform" plus a full church! :-)
Visiting a cottage in Bala, Muskoka near a beautiful summer church above a waterfall but had the time wrong. Showed up just in time for coffee hour. Met the priest who mentioned the readings included “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers” so I accepted cinnamon buns, tea and a tour 🙏🏻⚓️
Last week in the pews before choir returns next Sunday. Good crowd for the holiday weekend. The little one baptized at the Easter Vigil got her first birthday blessing. ❤️
Another great day at church! Rector gave a great sermon, great hymns and ice cream sundaes at coffee hour. We also celebrated the 89th birthday of a beloved member, and bid fond farewell to a newer member who is moving to DC.
Organist was out sick so it was a said service. Missed the music but nice to be in the congregation for a change. Our two cantors did sing during communion which was lovely. Great sermon focused on Hebrews. Visitors from a neighboring parish who had no service today. Welcome the stranger.
The congregation was 23% children!
That’s a good percentage of children!
It was another blessed Sunday.
Went somewhere new today. Scared to say it out loud but I think it’s going to be my new home. Was especially taken aback by the way the priest’s speech cadence was a bit untraditional in that it was slowed down and forced me to ponder each word of the Eucharistic prayer. It was just…beautiful.
At first I was like “oh no, the speech pattern is too slow for my ADHD melted brain” but I realized it was intentional and it made me emotional tbh. Slowing down so much on “Put all things in subjection under your Christ” was just…lovely.
A reverently read liturgy is such a gift
Wonderful!! Our church welcomed an intern priest and it’s a woman and having left a tradition earlier this year that does not ordain women or let them truly lead it’s extra exciting and healing for me, personally. ❤️
Excellent!
Wonderful service, good crowd for a holiday weekend, I preached and my jokes landed well at 10 am, we had a number of new students visiting
Blessing of the backpacks was great. Also preached on a combo of Luke, Hebrews, the Annunciation shooting, and a lot of recent congregational grief. Five people cried! The Spirit was present and God was glorified
I got to have a day in the congregation with my family; no verger duties today! We had a wonderful sermon by our deacon and got to meet our new Children & Families Coordinator. A beautiful late summer day in the Mile High City! 🕯️ vimeo.com/1114642854
Also dod the first reading from Sirach which honestly was eerily resonate
Was travelling last week so to be back before the altar was ❤️🔥 and surprisingly good numbers for a long weekend. And was thinking just a few years ago, it’d be rare for there to be 3 under-40s in a row at the altar rail frankly! We’re by no means a young parish, but it’s good to have more peers :)
Fun! I led intergenerational formation reading Bathe the Cat. We talked about the subtle differences between what God told Adam and Eve's conversation with the serpent, and how we can learn to listen to God's words so we're not fooled by half truths. Then Children's Chapel with the Gospel. You?
It was good! Surprisingly high attendance for Labor Day weekend. Getting excited for our kick off of fall programming next Sunday
wife and child baptized. joyous occasion
WONDERFUL! BLESS ALL OF YOU!!
Heck yeah
Litty
My cousin visited! And I met @timonlee.bsky.social !
My son, intellectually disabled, has become a great lover of serving in the church. I watched him light the candles it thrilled my heart. He carried the cross again and is scheduled to help with Community Meal tomorrow. The spirit is moving in his life. ⚓️
