For a day celebrating labor? May 1. For a day off in the fall? Maybe first weekend in October or last weekend in September
I don’t begrudge anyone a day off, especially working people. Personally, I don’t love the timing of Labor Day

Just saw a clump of 8 high school boys in the park next to a convenience store. Their families are probably from all over the world, probably of different faiths. They clumped across the street to the halal burger place. Bros being bros. This is my New Jersey, my America.

I had an interaction today that made me wonder: would it be inappropriate to ask a company how they use ai in the services they’re providing? In this case it’s consulting related, and I want to know if the money is paying someone to basically use their phone’s predictive texting

this is reflected in how people attend. So if we have 55-60 people at 10:30am on a given, it's made up of a percentage of the 80-100 people who attend, on average, 1.8 times per month. I will say, the ones who have come longer do tend to be MIA in the summer, and most of them were back yesterday
Yes, we're a week and a half into public schools starting and 1 week into the university. For our families with school age children, attendance is sporadic and largely unrelated to anything I can discern. I heard recently people attend church on average 1.8 times a month, so I think it's that 1/
We have a mix of people who have attended here a long time, people new but regular within the last 2.5 years, and guests, and few are "every Sunday" attendees. So yesterday was a lot of long time people who had not been in a 2-4 weeks and fewer of our 2.5 people

What made it frustrating and overwhelming?
Pretty good! Choir sang a nice anthem. Sang "Rock of Age", which slaps ("Be of sin the double cure, / Save me from its guilt and power."). Attendance is still going pretty study, though who is in the room shifts in thirds, which is weird.

I think it is situational to why a person "cannot" have that foretaste. Is there a particular situation that you have in mind?
100%. We are made to know God and enjoy God forever, and corporate worship gives us a foretaste of that heavenly rest.

I am weary of commentaries/sermons treating Sabbath-observance in Jesus' day as either a stuffy social convention or the Platonic ideal of made up generic "religious tradition." God wove Sabbath into creation! That Jesus heals on the Sabbath is not Jesus-as-edgelord, but Jesus as the Lord of Life

Will faithful proclamation of the gospel be divisive at times? Absolutely yes! Does it need to be ornamented with shock jock antics or worldly callousness towards others? No! Jesus weeps over Jerusalem as it clamors for him to go to the cross.
Some take this passage as license to be divisive themselves. But Jesus does not need us to be jerks for the kingdom of God. Jesus is the one who brings division, not us! He doesn't need you to do it for him, anymore than he needs you to climb up on the cross and nail yourself there.
There are so many ways to go awry with this passage. I remember my dad (be he rest with the saints in light) pointing to Jesus saying he came to bring not peace but division as evidence, kind of, that seeking peace was a pipe dream. He had a similar read of "the poor will always be with you"
It's a shame families are being divided by the alienating forces of market capitalism when they should be divided by Jesus Christ (stewing on Luke 12:49-56 for this Sunday) ⚓
