it's been a pretty common thing now though, from rando blue wave emoji types online to more high profile types like the pod jons: getting to the actual people of power in the party, going "hey, we all yelled at the leftists together, but you listen to US, right?" and finding out: no they do not!
its kind of like a reflection of the broader dem position of "be half as bad as the worst people to try to appeal to the second-worst voters" they'll tell anyone seriously wanting to do good to fuck off and then try to reach the people they want to reach who go "what are you even talking about"
fundamentally what they want is a voting base who want them to do the things they were already going to do, or, "the san francisco special".
i think the whole tech industry has been so insular so long and so removed from anything of substance they don't evven realize they sound like bugs to everyone else. this also applies to da beltway probably
thing that really clicked all this to me is thinking on how seniority is prioritized in dems, you gotta be around for a long time to be in leadership. so the most likely people to be in leadership are in can't-lose districts. so no matter what happens 1. they don't lose 2. they're still in charge

an underspoken and mostly forgotten conflict that i think speaks very well to the actual perspective of the people running the party is the insistence they had on taking howard dean out as chair for the DNC and putting clinton's boy tim kaine in there, AFTER the 50 state strategy did great for them
