We took a trip down there in April, mostly to take the kids to a water park in Rapid City. Driving up a six lane road to Rushmore by ourselves was a surreal way to see that place. Then we hiked around the Tower alone on the way home. Great offseason place.

Yeah, we hit it on a weekday on a cross country drive. Perfect. We also liked Rushmore a lot after many folks suggested we skip it.

The kids loved it, I’ve never been that impressed. But the black hills sans crowds is a bucket list kind of place.
