The sad thing is, only really bad things will knock people loose enough to see. Whatever it is, it will be tragedy for someone.

Agreed, 100%. We're at a turning point, or perhaps a fork in the road, where one path leads to a Türkiye like authoritarian future, and the other lies a new US democracy born out of revolution against this fascism and oligarchy.
