There it is, Trump Admin is looking at privitizing Amtrak. This would most likely be a death blow to almost all intercity services in the country.

While this is a bad idea (both Amtrak and especially USPS), Amtrak may or may not be insanely bad. Overall their entire network makes a profit, all division including LD, State Supported, & NEC. Buuut is that enough to stop any cuts from a private company, probably not.

I don't know why so many people think it's a good idea to let one person control critical infrastructure, but I guess we're going to find out in real time what happens when everything gets privatized. Nothing we can do about it now. 🙃

Yes it would require congressional approval, but Republicans easily fall in line and if Trump and Elon want something they'll usually get it. Also Amtrak is kind of a private entity but requires government money to operate almost all routes.
