Watching Sinners. 'It's a shame no one dresses like that anymore,' I say as I wear khaki shorts and a t-shirt and prop my feet in my Hello Kitty socks on the coffee table.

The fashion in different eras are so iconic. So classy. Now we have people walking around in bubble skirts 😭 its like the more advanced we become, the less sense people have with fashion
this isn't true the young, privileged people of society have always tried to directly emulate high fashion trends but the trends trickle down to ordinary, daily outfits that have elements of high fashion it's a cycle - this kind of fashion comes and goes
Huh? Have you seen the bubble skirts im referring to?
Yes, of course.
And you don't see the booty cheeks hanging out of these young women skirts? Especially at places like Disney land, restaurants or family oriented establishments? That's smart to do? Expose your cheeks to kids and families in these places?
lol just because you don't like it or the way young people interpret it doesn't mean it isn't fashion, and it doesn't make it new "...the designers of 2024 are tackling the bubble skirt with a cool, contemporary eye." www.vogue.com.au/fashion/tren...
I never said I didn't like it, but there is really no excuse for anyone's butt cheeks to be out like that. That's what I dont like. It's nasty. Especially with the rolls and cellulite. It's hoe fashion. Not fashion fashion
I'd point out that Sinners shows a lot of skin in general... & in particular there are women in *that* scene (the juke joint scene where Sammy performs) who are wearing short short skirts. So clearly Coogler knows something you don't about fashion, I suppose. Ain't no such thing as a hoe anyways
Lady if you don't take your big back self somewhere 😆😆😆😆
lol come on, you don't need to shit on women to get your point across and very clearly bubble skirts are, in fact, fashion fashion anyways cheerio
We need to revive early 20th century Hello Kitty
It’s too damn hot now. Back then the hottest summer days got up to like 75 in direct noon sunlight.
The only thing I could think of while watching this was "damn, it had to be hot as hell dressing like that in the south with no AC."
same, wool, damn.
But but it breathes. Right? 🤔🤔🤔
I reckon if it was that comfortable, we'd still be in suits and hats...
I bet everyone smelled bad lol. You probably owned one suit and had it cleaned once a month. Those guys were the richest people in the county except the elites, they had nice suits, everyone else was wearing scruffy clothes
And the suits generally were made of heavy, scratchy wool. No air conditioning, and a fan was a luxury. Amazing they all didn't get heatstroke.
I’m on my second viewing, it’s an exceptional film.
I saw that movie in a gloriously booby dress with matching knee boots and a fur shrug. I ought to have got more sex out of that evening than the none I managed.
I'm happy that we don't wear heavy wool fabrics in summer anymore
Loved that movie. Such an excellent, surprising ending.
I wish I had the opportunity to watch it in an IMAX theatre. It feels as though you have been dropped into 1932 Mississippi. It's so damned realistic. Except for the vampire bit. That's cool as shit, but more fantastical.
I always think how damn hot and itchy all that must've been. And the horrible underwear without elastic.
The costume designer Ruth E Carter is amazing
Fact is, to be accurate, those jackets may have been the only outerwear they had.
awesome movie
Sinners - I've not clicked on it yet - now on my list!
Sinners is a great movie, highly recommended.
SUCH a good movie! Great music, awesome costumes, loved it from start to finish.
The rare movie that deserves prequels: SINNERS: RISE UP about the twins childhood and coming of age. SINNERS: THE GREAT WAR about the twins going to The Great War and being a part of the French "Black Devils" unit. SINNERS: THE CHICAGO WAY about the twins working for the Chicago Outfit.
Another great prequel would be the Choctaw becoming vampire hunters and the story behind chasing Remmick.
That would be awesome.
The tragic irony would be at the end of each movie, the twins get fed up with where they're at and think: - joining the army will win them the respect for a better life, - having fought to save the country they'll get respect at home, - now they have the booze & bucks to get a better life--at home.
Those all sound like great movies. They sound more like dramas than horror, though. As a horror fan, I'd enjoy movies about the vampire twin, I forget which one that was. I'd also enjoy the origin story of the bad guy vamp. And being Irish, one of the Irish myth. There's a whole cinematic universe.
Also would so watch a movie about the Choctaw vampire hunters.
Agreed. HUNTERS--A SINNERS' STORY about young Chayton, growing up in the Choctaw tribe. First tragic encounter with a vampire. Training to be a Hunter. Leading a squad. Meeting Remmick. Hunting Remmick to a shack. Next day tracking him to a burnt juke & a silver guitar plate with blood fused to it.
SINNERS' AFTERMATH Over Sammie's objections, 14yo Lisa convinces him to show her the juke. He returns the distraught teen home before leaving for Chicago. Stack & Mary hid from the sun in a crate but overheard Smoke's death & Lisa's wailing. At night, they buried the bodies & dispersed the cars....
... Towing the last car away, Stack & Mary stopped at a gas station / diner to refuel--where the hunters were eating. Chayton recognized the car from the juke so the squad confronted the couple, who smiled & warned them off. The smugness. That was the tell. Each man pulled out a wooden stake...
Hold on to ya cooze lol. You won't be disappointed -click on it ASAP
🤣🤣🤣🤣. A nostalgic fashion fan…. wearing Hello Kitty socks !! 🤣🤣🤣. Well…. It’s your house,be comfortable… if not ready for a “Runway/ Red Carpet premiere… yet…😜
What'd you think of the movie other than the clothing?
It's great
😂
You are part of the problem, no doubt.
Yeah, that's why it was a joke.
I love the old clothing styles.
Every time I watch any period piece, I’m always asking, “was it never above 60° in that time?!”
It has a kind of, from dusk till dawn, vibe.
I initially thought that too but it is far more serious.
Great show!
Great movie. Love the soundtrack.
I want all the hats. Loved that movie, but the ending meandered too much. Should've ended with the old man playing, thinking he sees someone in the audience, & left us all wondering...
Didn't both cousins get bit?
Just ask @dieworkwear.bsky.social why and it will all make sense…
As a slightly balding man, yes, slightly, I do miss hats.
😆
On the rocky road the Duberlin 1 2 3 4 5
That's one of my favorite scenes in that whole excellent film.
It's a difficult song and he was dancing and they were long takes with a lot of actors, it would have been a very difficult scene to film and perform, they all did an amazing job especially Jack
We H-towners would die from heat stroke dudette
I know, I live in Alabama. It was a joke that I am too lazy to dress like that even if I wanted to
;D
Fedoras should never have gone out of style. It's almost impossible not to look cool wearing one.
Going to have to go watch this Today is a slow news day apparently. Tired of hearing different regurgitations of the same search warrant.
I have wine socks & Tulane shorts on.
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
All the sartorial clout you need.
Really cool movie 👍
What an incredible movie. Loved it!
My usual attire is "I didn't think I'd have to get out of the car".
There's a guy I've seen at my local Costco that dresses very similar to this. I mean hat, suspenders, leather boots, cotton white button-up. He always looks great. I've complimented him a few times. Buuuut, I'm one of those people who sweats easily, so looking at this gif makes me sweat.
And they have the nerve to light up a cigarette. 🔥🔥🔥😱🤣
In that movie, they don’t dress like that for long. Comfort overrides style even then.
They stay dressed up all day Saturday. They finally take off their jackets after dark.
That does not negate my point.
Yes but you made two points. They did stay dressed up most of the movie which took place over a day. However, you're right, comfort overrides looks. Like water carving the Grand Canyon, eventually it will win out.
🤷🏼♀️
I’m grateful for your consideration. If you can, a donation or repost of my pinned post would be a blessing.
You want ridiculous fashion just watch skaters
IKR????
Yea but imagine if this was your only outfit. The world was a much smellier place not too long ago
Sinners - great filmmaking.
I will say here exactly what I said when I first saw the movie, “I like the cut of his jib”.
Michael B Jordan is one of the coolest actors in the game right now. He was born for this role.
Such a great film, had to rewatch it again to get every cultural reference during one particular scene. Very original film I absolutely loved it. 🤙🏼
While I love the look I think I love comfort more.
I used to dress like that sometimes before my brother run off with all of my suits and accessories
Let’s not forget Michael B Jordan is a major factor on pulling it off so effortlessly and making it look so cool.
If you look at the Black community in Chicago. All that can afford to, dresses like the characters in Sinner’s. With updates of course. Most wear custom made clothes, even the jogging suits. Buying of the rack is taboo. Just check it out. Custom from hats to shoes and everything in between.
The costume design in this film was top-tier awesome, especially the suits for the brothers.
We can’t go back. Climate warming would have all of us sweating in heavy clothes!
Lowkey I wouldn't mind wearing something like this, but mainly for special occasions
Cool movie. Some people I know have spoken about it in ways they feel are racially groundbreaking, but we live in Trumpistan, so we lag behind the times here, its fair to note.
It's too hot in the South to dress like that.
When you do it with the right fabric it’s ok. Wear linen and cotton. Maybe a light summer weight wool if you have to. I’m on the left. It’s June in Mississippi on the coast and I’m wearing a corset, petticoats, corset cover, blouse, and vest (4 layers of clothes) and I’m very comfortable
I know. I live in Alabama.
I fall for any man wearing that ngl
If someone did the younger generation would prob bully them for wearing it unfortunately.
I like how the two brothers' outfits show which mob they worked for in Chicago--one Italian and one Irish.
I had the same thought; then realized how fucking hot it would be.
It’s funny how shocking it is these days to actually see a “sharp-dressed man” (if you know what I mean) on the street. Someone stylishly attired and neatly immaculate in every respect. Quite a curiosity and rather a thing of wonder in a sense.
You’re right Smoke and Stack would obviously be fans of My Melody and Kuromi not Hello Kitty I mean come on
Great movie!
HELLO KITTY SOCKS!! 😬😬😳😱😱 "I don't think we can be friends" he says as he props his feet clad in Simpson's sock on the coffee table. Yolks aside I like 20's to 40's dress. Robert Redford in the Sting style 😎 👌
Great movie!
I don't know for sure but I imagine maybe it's because all that stuff got far too expensive for a regular person to own or clean?
it just went further out of style as cheap clothes entered the market instead of having your one or two daily dresses and your one church dress, you could suddenly own whole wardrobes of lower quality things
lol I wish I was as pretty as Keanu
He is and has always been a dreamboat. :-)
You and I have the same stylist, I see.
Same - and when I look at film/pictures and what women wore in the 1950s 👠👜 I think with the pandemic, I came to choose comfort over fashion and darn, but it’s hard to turn back! 👚👖👟
Thanks for reminding me. I haven't watched it yet. I'm gonna watch it now.
Who has the $$$ to dress in suits everyday?? They had to be repeating the same clothes for a few days in a row back then. Which means, they might have been a little musty
i agree, fashion has devolved.
That movie is the bomb!! So good.
Well don't blame yourself! it's a society advancement/late stage capitalism decline problem. Also, sinners was AMAZING.
Yeah, it was a joke. And yeah, Sinners is great so far.
Then you've never seen the homeless in any city that "dresses" like that because they have no choice.
💯 as I sit on my couch in a tank top and leggings…
I am obsessed with this movie. The juke joint dance scene and music is perfection.
I agreed that was a great scene and his VOICE was amazing. But I thought the movie was very badly directed. It skipped around in a few places and made no sense. It was a better more dramatic version of dusk till dawn but the latter was funnier.
I understand- I think the vampires were the least interesting part of the movie but I really liked the attention to so many details, the historical accuracy of time/place, and the music was insanely good. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Cheers friend!
I'm about to watch it for the first time
Lucky... It's a great movie.
I watched it and loved it. Will watch again since I got the dvd from the library
Same
I just finished watching this movie and it was really good. I hid my eyes behind my hands a few times. Overall a great movie.
Honestly, until I went remote, I was a full suit sorta guy. Wasn't required by my job, but it made me feel good.
I'm watching it right now! Such a great movie, second time watching it.
Temperature in Clarksdale, MS in mid October ranges from 80 to 90 degrees for the highs.
Brilliant!
My 26yo nephew does. 👍 When he first saw the Movie he sent out a message saying he (jokingly) wants to be called “Stack” from now on because, skintone/race aside, he found his Twin (clothes, attitude, etc). 🤣🤣🤣
I have been wearing suspenders, a boater hat and blazer all summer.
Don't forget the 1990s rap culture clothes at the end.
All I could think of was that he was wearing a Cosby Show sweater (back before that man was widely known to be an absolute monster).
I thought the dance scene was interesting, with people from different time periods playing music & dancing.
It was brilliant. Honestly the whole movie was brilliant.
If quality suits and cloths like that weren't so fucking costly. I'd wear that style of clothes. Legit, my fav. Im all for suits (if you want) back in the workplace. So stylish
What a great movie, love his blue newsboy cap in that film, got a Stetson one similar, great hat.
Ask next how many sets of clothes they had. Few choices, expensive, and re-worn until worn out.
Who can afford a three piece suit in today's economy?
It's Mississippi. I think they could get the fabric cheap. 😁
Primark will do one for 30 quid that will last at least one outing before tearing/falling to pieces.
ADULT PEER PRESSURE is frightening and that is why people don’t ____________________________________ WHAT say ye🤦♀️😂😂😂😂😂
Nah it's mostly because I am too lazy to deal with 1930s fashion and pin curling my hair.
Your outfit, khaki shorts & hello kitty socks sound like there is an author in the making 👏👏👏👏
I'm already an author but I don't remember if the outfit or the authoring came first. It's a chicken & egg quandary 😄
😳 😂🤦♀️ I’m shocked to have picked up on that. Please share “titles”
My titles? share.google/ISJgNR2dUR5m...
Me watching sinners. How many endings does this movie have?
I totally could dress in a full suit, tie, and stylish hat. The only problem is that it's 95 outside and over 100 when you factor in humidity.
We would die. And the ripe smell that would come with it would take out the person next to you
You'd be surprised. I sat in the scorching sun (by Irish standards - it's always humid here) in a 3pc tweed. Was no warmer than t-shirt and jeans. Proper cloth is woven well so can breath, not the plastic shit we wear most of the time now
I live in Vietnam and if you wear polyester or similar you feel your skin in pain from not breathing.
*laughs in Florida*
and seersucker, the reason in "wrinkles" and lays as it does is it creates air channels
Need to modernize the look. You know, shoes and hats that scream global warming.
There's solutions for that: seersucker fabric is one option
That’s what knee breeches are for
One of those notions that’s better in theory than practice.
Exactly. Sinners is set in Mississippi. The clothing in the 1930's certainly was better made and more stylish. But there are certain aspects of fashion that are much more practical now.
The secret to that is to get it in linen. It will actually help keep you cool
There’s your viral moment go to thrift stores where what they use to ware in that era publish photos and stop spending money at big box stores
I wanna dress like that but summer keeps extending every year...
Probably couldn't afford "summer weight" wool suits. There were also linen suits back then (which meant that you'd better have a working iron and an ironing board).
They were clothes from the scrapped Blade movie production
It was the 1930s, of course they had a working iron and ironing board. They probably held a solid hunk of iron over an open flame.🔥🔥🔥👀
Likely. Electricity in rural areas was rare at that time. My mother talked about those old irons that had to heated on an open flame. She used them from the late 1920s until electric irons were affordable.
What a fantastic movie that is.
Love the hats.
I bet real money you own a pair of crocs too. No hate. I own several.
Nope, everyone says they're comfortable but I can't get past the hideousness 😄
Oh I get that - I held out for years but once I took the plunge it was over.
I watch alot of movies. ALOT of movies. Most don't stick. Sinners did. I completely and totally LOVED it. The story, the casting, the costumes, the cinematography...all were 1st rate. Absolutely BRILLIANTLY done horror movie.
😄♥️
It's too hot to be wearing that many layers.
I have no idea how everyone wore so many fucking layers in the American south, no less. I get that it's a lot of very breathable linens, but still. It's too hot in the south when you are butt ass nekkid. Also without the three times a day shower I need when I'm down there as well.
Its a social issue. Start dressing like this and you look like your cosplaying. Best you can do is find a middle ground that is still socially acceptable.
Oh I'm far too lazy to deal with a 1930s wardrobe, that was the joke.
My over thinking mind 🧠
Right? Lol
Wow, the sound engineering on that movie is great. Sinners will def be on the Academy's tech awards.(Deserves way more, overall production, direction and acting performances were superb!)
People dressed like that because of social pressure and control not because of comfort or fashion. I prefer today's freedom.
I do dress like that. So there!
Since, we really haven’t had winter in nearly 2 years in East Texas, it’s cargo shorts year round.
Fabulous movie
the only thing I think was not authentic was all the facial hair
Weird movie. Not what I was expecting, but fun. Music was good too. Not a fan of the scene where it shows music through time though. Feel like it should have been done differently.
Writing back as I wear my north face cozy sweats and my favorite soft cotton T-shirt: I agree.
It would be so expensive
👍🏼👍🏼⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spoiler alert Buddy Guy💙🎸
Luckily I just finished the movie when I saw this. I was like whoa, Sammy grew up to be Buddy Guy?
Someone needed to tell Buddy to drop his voice a few octaves. “…best day of my life.”😢
That movie is so good
I wear a velvet fedora, slacks and suit jackets. Some of us still like to dress nicely. Some of my jazz musician friends still wear suits and ties while performing andcevery day.
🗽🇺🇸✌️🫶🇺🇦✊🇨🇦🇲🇽💪💯📌 Lol power to the people Freely being comfortable
We definitely dress up like this a lot! Need to check out Sinners:)
I would literally die wearing all that in Phoenix 😂
Ha! That’s my daily work attire (it gives me safe passage) 😳😹
I love the hats 👒
Sinners is a brilliant movie! A study in reclaiming from cultural appropriation the African roots in American music, Sinners is a wild cinematic roller coaster ride that blows wide open the concept of the “devil’s music.”
Fun fact: Sinners-Blade connection... Part of wardrobe for Sinners acquired from delayed MCU Blade reboot
Highlighting another Oscar nomination they should get. For best costumes
absolutely have you seen the interviews with the costume designer? she is amazing
Fantastic movie, shows how important true American history/fantasy is ✌️
lol @starbyter.bsky.social
It's truuuue
I downloaded that soundtrack while 2/3rds of the way through the movie.
the hats in that film! the indigo blue flat-hat prominent in that clip, there's a lovely maroon one with a broad brim...
Graphic T, sweatpants, & rainbow bright socks (I’m 54)😂
I mean I own a grey Hello Kitty nerd shirt. That said this movie was fan fucking tastic
I can barely stand that movie, by which I mean, everyone on screen is so hot that I Can't. Stand. It.
No one is stopping anyone from dressing like that. Show up!
Fantastic movie!
😂
Sinners! What a great movie! It's the kind where you find something new each time you watch it. Also that scene in the juke joint is mind blowing. Also that scene at the end is a gift. How can you tell that I loved every minute of it.
I kept rewinding to figure out why that dudes back was smoking.
Did you ever figure it out?
Yup.
Favorite original movie this year
You’ve never heard of @dandywellington.bsky.social ❓❓❓❓❓❓
