Do you honestly think it's that simple?
Do you honestly think it's that simple?
It must be that simple bc that's their answer to everything. Don't like it? Leave. Right?
No, but it is now the only option
It's clearly not. Michigan policy makers -as seen in this video- are raising the alarm and continuing to fight for their constituents, even the stupid ones. You are saying, that shouldn't be the case and we should let them suffer.
The money is limited now. Every dollar that goes to rural areas that voted for this to fund their inefficient hospitals and programs for this defunds hospitals and programs in urban areas that didn’t vote for this. I’m not slicing my arms to keep them from slicing theirs
Like yeah? I am saying let them suffer. They’ve tried to touch the stove 40,000 times. I’m tired of hurting myself to make sure they don’t
And Mallory is clearly not fighting for her actual constituents here because she represents fucking royal oak
Ok. You really don't get how government works then. She's majority whip and a member of appropriations.
Those do not superscede the needs of her constituents :). And she’s running for senate so we know what this play is actually about.
That's not how state funding works. It's not a zero sum game. Funding one hospital doesn't necessarily mean taking funds from another one. Adopting a scarcity outlook and an us vs them mentality doesn't help anyone, though it may feel good to you.
Lmao yes that is actually how state funding works, especially for hospitals. And especially in an environment where the federal government no longer pays for anything. I am adopting a scarcity outlook because we are in a scarcity environment.
Like, if you can tell me what a rural payment designation by the cmc is without googling I will believe you’re maybe informed enough on this issue to know how funding works here
I know that rural hospitals get an extra percentage from CMC. I also know that states can provide grants & sweep funds. It's not necessarily sustainable long term, but to blanket say fuck you to people who live outside of cities is fucked up. You keep talking abt urban/rural like they are monoliths.
Doesn’t matter if they are monoliths or not. Like if the choice is between me in an urban area and a Harris voter who lives in a rural area I’m picking me. The funding comes more from urban areas, and rural areas cost more. It’s smarter to fund urban areas that by and large didn’t vote for this
Seriously, blue states, like CA, should shut off the money flow and take care of their own people.
Yeah I’m not sure why this guy is so dead set on sending money out of blue states to red states that hate blue states and want to destroy them. It’s just self-defense
Yeah, well some of us have loved ones who live in red states.
Like I can get very morbid about this but urban hospitals save the lives of more democrats and rural hospitals save the lives of more republicans, if we want more vote share, I know what I’m picking. Sorry they voted to kill themselves again like they did with COVID
That's not morbid. It's immoral.
While medicaid and medicare may provide more funding for rural hospitals, that isn't the only way hospitals are funded. Better get your austerity knives out, you can play right into the hand of MAGA republicans that way.
Yeah private charity is one way but that’s not sustainable, considering 43% of their revenue comes from Medicare. They have their austerity knives out for urban areas I am simply returning the favor. This is the problem with us democrats. We bring hugs to a knife fight
We’re dealing with people who think exclusively in us vs them and zero-sum terms. This isn’t about feelings, it’s about pragmatism.
Maybe you haven't talked to many people in rural America.
I have and the vast majority think like this
Literally grew up there my man. But it’s hilarious that that is the only explanation you can fathom for someone who disagrees with you.
So you're cool with someone who lives in rural America (maybe a younger you) having even more services taken away? They deserve it, right? Many of them didn't vote after all.
No one has said in this conversation that they deserve it. You want us to because it makes it easier in your mind to dismiss what we are saying. What we are saying is that resources are now limited because rural areas voted the way they did and now we have to choose where resources go
I literally cannot do a single thing about it. I can only stand up for services in my new community. I cannot force help on anyone too stupid to take it. I cannot force anyone into a social contract with me. I do not owe it to you or anyone else to offer endless exploitation of my community.
Yes.
