avatar
Aruna D’Souza 🇨🇦 @arunadsouza.bsky.social

“Leaving Republicans alone”? Who says one cannot get their own party in order and push back against Republicans? Besides, the biggest problem with the Dem party is that unlike the GOP they have no discipline in voting—17 GOP have never voted against their party in a single vote, I’m guessing.

Because resources are finite and wounds from a primary linger. Every dime you spend fighting a Democrat is one you don’t have to fight the Republicans. Every attack you use to damage a Democrat helps the Republicans. Both parties have vote discipline when it matters. This vote it didn’t for Dems.

Brother that last part is where you're confused, nobody's surprised Dems lose elections. They're careerist lawyers in it for the easy corporate board seats, AIPAC money and insider trading. Trying to address that is the only chance you've got of actually standing up to the far right.

Aruna D’Souza 🇨🇦 @arunadsouza.bsky.social

So, where does the democracy happen? You know, the part where the electorate tells the candidate how they want to be represented? When is the good time for that? And what are the consequences of not following the will of the people? How does that get addressed?

jul 31, 2025, 11:13 am • 2 0 • view
avatar
Aruna D’Souza 🇨🇦 @arunadsouza.bsky.social

Yes but this vote mattered. Maybe more than any other recently. It was to stop a genocide, or at least make headway towards that. If your political calculus can’t take the moral and ethical significance of that into account I feel sorry for you.

jul 31, 2025, 5:07 am • 5 0 • view
avatar
John Tuttle @tuttle.bsky.social

No it didn’t. 53 Republicans were voting for Israel. The result was clear. Nothing Democrats did was going to change the outcome. So let individual Democrats vote how they see fit. If you can’t tell the difference between a vote that matters and one that does, well that explains some stuff.

jul 31, 2025, 5:09 am • 0 0 • view

John Tuttle @tuttle.bsky.social

And regardless of who eventually wins the the primary they emerge with less money and more damaged because primaries don’t happen in a vacuum. This makes it easier for the Republican to win the general. Everything about this is self defeating. Reagan was smarter than the left, apparently.

I took Intro to Logic and Set Theory with Susan Niefield. She's a great teacher, and her class really helped me learn to make rigorous logical derivations
