Maybe, but in my experience, when someone says "you can't publicize this information" they mean that you're not allowed to make that information public. So I think publicly acknowledging the relationship could still be considered "publicizing" it and get creators in trouble.

I think it's more that they moved from a very detailed political program describing the world they'd eventually like to see to a broader statement of positions that mentions specific policies they're currently fighting for – in part to give DSA candidates concrete policies to campaign on.

Andrew Cuomo has suggested that Zohran Mamdani should be made to answer for DSA's 2021 national platform. Mamdani has responded by saying that his platform is distinct from DSA's platform. But Cuomo is also wrong about what DSA supports. The organization updated its platform last year.

The Mamdani campaign, understandably, wants to have the broadest possible coalition to consolidate as much support as it can. The socialist left is a dominant player in Mamdani's coalition but has a slightly different goal. It wants Mamdani to win by crushing conservative political forces.

As I said months ago, I think institutions have to plan for just never getting federal funds. If Trump can arbitrarily cut off funds and place unacceptable conditions on the funds, that money is as good as gone (unless you want to be a collaborator with the Trump admin).

You're right, but I don't think Mamdani is bending the knee to Jeffries here. (If he were, Jeffries would endorse him!) Taking meetings with skeptics to defend your positions and invite them to get on board while making it clear you won't bend the knee is a sign of strength.

Personally, I preferred in-class exams to take-home assignments, because I was a perfectionist when it came to papers but thrived under pressure. But that also makes me worry about what the shift to in-person exams will do to students who understand the material but crack under pressure.

It depends. In a situation like this, where it's sort of like a high-stakes diplomatic meeting, I think they use the same euphemisms. But when it's like two members of Congress who frequently work together, I think they're much more candid behind closed doors.

A serious primary challenge against Jeffries is unlikely. But if he doesn't endorse Mamdani, that creates real space for a potential pro-Mamdani challenger. Whereas if Jeffries endorses (and campaigns for) Mamdani, there isn't as much space for a primary challenge.

It's not just that Jeffries hasn't endorsed. It's that he's creating this whole drama where he's a central figure – he has to have all these meetings before he can decide whether to endorse his own party's nominee, but he's not sure yet, but maybe he'll make a decision in the future, etc.
