In NYC, employers now must list the salary ranges for open jobs. But a proposed City Council bill would go even further, allowing *current employees* to request the salary range for their position, to see if they're underpaid relative to their coworkers. www.cityandstateny.com/opinion/2025...

Board members, CEO, CTO, COO, and such need to disclose the full amount they are getting paid with bonus trips and all. This should then be checked against board members contributions to the company to validate their pay and seat.

worked for a company which had a salary scale for men, one for women for every job opening, guess which one was lower, the head of HR was a woman, she instituted the policy saying men were often the breadwinner and women the second salary in a household, she was the 3rd highest paid in the company

in the early 2000’s, company was acquired and she was deemed redundant, I did the budgeting and would have to do two scenarios based on the gender hired

Everyone’s salary should be public. Public workers’ salaries are public and it’s fine. We need the transparency.

Been looking for months but I’ve stopped applying for jobs without a pay range. Almost feels like employers are using us in a race to the bottom (what salary are you looking for?). Complete bullshit. They tell us what they’re looking for but say nothing about what they’re offering!

Man, I was interviewing for a job a year ago and they said the salary range was something like $75,000-$200,000. Was nowhere near the $200,000.

So many firms make it a fireable offense to even discuss salary. That lack of transparency has always troubled me.

Well, three things: 1. Labor laws vary tremendously by state. 2. Salaried employees are generally exempt. 3. Companies do illegal stuff all the time until someone with the funds and clout to do so challenge them.

This would be so easy to game, since “position” is a subjective thing. The original law is easy to enforce; this is not. NYC has a lot of failings that are more core to municipal governance, City Council should stick to those.
