I appreciate the noncombat reenactors, like ren faire vendors and hosts, but yeah the combat guys can be some douchebags, and it gets worse the further you get from a medieval setting I fucking hate the pirate cosplayer guys so much lol

I'm being a little bit glib (I have many friends who identify as, etc) but for me I think some of what it is is a tension about "what kinds of reverence or importance are due to you because of your hobby, which is a hobby," and that is distributed nonrandomly through the community lmao
