What is the official position of the democratically elected leaders of Gaza?
The last election was 2006. 19 years ago. 50% of Gazans are below 19 years. There is no democratic will expression to hold Gazans accountable by. Until recently, it used to be a Hamas dictatorship. Now, Hamas was replaced by the IDF in this regard. Source: web.archive.org/web/20140608...
How did the world pressure Hamas into holding elections? I'm assuming that they shunned as a pariah state and received no funding and support from e.g the UN until they held them?
No, as soon as Hamas seized power (right extremists sponsored by Israel, as a counter to the left-wing PLO btw), Hamas suppressed all democratic movement. The UN or the world did not manage to pressure Hamas into holding elections. Therefore, Hamas does not have a mandate of representation of Gazans
'seized power' lol. You meant to say 'democratically elected into power by the people of Gaza'. They have the only legitimate mandate for the people of Gaza. Despite their actions since coming to power, the UN continued to send them billions in aid.
They have never been required to look after their own people as that has always been done by the UN and aid agencies. That has given them much more time to radicalise the population and commit acts of war
It's plausible to assume that without the aid, many people would've been much more miserable and more susceptible to recruitment by radicals. The decisive factor for recruitment is desperation, not free-time.
Would you say that that aid was a good investment?
I don't think humanitarian aid can be an investment to begin with, because it doesn't "yield" any capital.
Hitler was democratically elected into power, too. Fine at first but it becomes a seize of power if an elected entity "closes the door behind them". That's what Hamas did. Half of Gazans never got the chance to vote and that's why Hamas does not have a legitimate mandate. UN aid is irrelevant
And how do Gazans get rid of Hamas then?
I'm not qualified to answer this. But the crimes conducted by the cabinet Netanyahu will radicalize the survivors. That's why they are doing their hardest to make sure there are as few survivors as possible.
That's utter nonsense. There are millions of people in Gaza. It's descending into chaos as Hamas lose control and a power vacuum emerges. If Israel wanted to wipe out the population they could have easily done it by now. Removing Hamas from power is not easy. It's incredibly messy
I agree with you. They could wipe out the population and they are in the process of it. Of course theyre not just gonna carpet bomb them. It's more subtle, as this is a more presentable approach. Also, there are still hostages to be saved. But the Nazis in the coalition see Palestinians as animals.
