Youre absolutely right, its a Hamas-led dictatorship and Hamas in turn is controlled by Iran. So the Palestinians are held hostage by Iran, who wants to wipe out Israel.

I would agree with you there. Iran is hugely to blame for the current situation. Sadly, the international community - including many countries that support a Palestinian state - turned a blind eye.

What is necessary for a sustainable peace could be: - A Palestinian state divorced from Iran - A safe Israel - International recognition of both - No contact between military forces of one side with civilians of the other side, therefore an internationally controlled DMZ in between - No starvation

I think that that is reasonable. However, the devil is in the detail. Some sticking points would be that Gaza is separate from the west bank, so geography would complicate things. There are very few countries that are trusted by both sides so control of the DMZ would be an issue

Jerusalem is likely to be a huge sticking point for both sides

Wow a discussion about Gaza that ends in agreement. Rare sight, kudos. The DMZ needs to be held by mediators like Saudi Arabia, USA and the EU. It'll be hard with the rightwing extremists in the USA, though. They line up with their peers in Israel. I dont see it happening in the current Trump term.

Thankyou for a good discussion. I tend to be a bit abrasive on here - the character limit doesn't help. Ultimately, I think that most casual observers of the conflict want peace and for the suffering to end, but how to get to a lasting peace is very tricky given the entrenched positions.

I think that something similar was tried in Lebanon with the UN. Ultimately that ended in failure IMO. I'm not sure how much the Israeli people would trust a similar solution - especially when the risks are so high (e.g a repeat of 10/7)

Yes it will be a heavy compromise but every year in peace is worthwhile and the israelis have to realize a Palestinian life is worth as much as an Israeli one

Both-sideism and conspiracy theories about how Hamas is a puppet government are not the stances of a comrade, or someone whose opinions deserve respect. Oppressed people owe their oppressors nothing. The only right a conqueror has is to leave or die. Israel started every atrocity happening there.

What’s wrong with you that you’re means-testing the right not to be genocided? If Hamas burned IOF soldiers alive in front of their kids, that would be acceptable if everything less-extreme had failed—because the IOF is guilty of that themselves, and has no right to attack Palestine at all.
