If LA during the Eaton/Palisades fires had the same emergency alert “system” that Texas did during the floods, then THOUSANDS would’ve died here instead of 30. As a functioning blue state we were notified more than 24 hours ahead about fire danger & mandatory evacuation notification hours before.

Im so thankful for our high taxes and all the canals they build with them they look so useless most of the time and even exaggerated in size but they show how worth it they where every rainy season we don’t flood and die.

They don’t winterize generators until they all freeze or install sirens til a bunch of people die. It’s reactionary policy making and as humans with the ability to think rationally we’re capable of way better. But it requires spending and 1/2 the country is convinced that preparedness is a scam

Republicans are so mad that their polices cost them lives. Because like eveb when they win and get away with doing what they want they lose because everything just comes falling behind them because they have 3rd world mentality.

I'm in a functioning red state with a blue elector we get tornado and thunderstorm warnings early and nonstop. That's now they have shut down weather balloons in Omaha now

And when the Santa Anas kicked up to 80 mph, we knew the drill before the alarms. This area in Texas is called Flash Flood Alley, and they still had no alarm system. The camp site was in a FEMA designated flood basin! It was raining.

I’m not sure that’s entirely true. It might be different for floods and fires. Or it could be that things have changed that drastically since Trump took office. I’m in a blue state and I get the same kind of flood watch notifications that Texas got. I’m under one right now.

I don’t say that to be an asshole, but because I’m genuinely paying attention to how this plays out. I got the alert at 230am last night, 12 hours in advance (sorry, it actually kicks in at 2pm today). Right now it’s sunny outside.

Didn’t the majority of the 30 who died live west of lake blvd in Altadena who did not receive an evacuation until 2:30am, hours after their neighborhood started burning?
