There was a time a few years ago that if you even mentioned you were working late or on the weekend, SciTwitter would pounce on you, saying you're perpetuating toxic work habits etc etc... I'm glad we seemingly moved away from that and respect that everyone has their own clock that works for them.

Yep that’s why weekends were invented. Because too many people were unhappy that their bosses stopped them from doing what works for them and working weekends and late.

A little of column A, a little of column B ;) But seriously - everyone has their own rhythm, a big component of what we do is creativity and some people are creating at midnight (I can’t) and some at 4 AM (that’s me!)

See, I absolutely, 100%, need to crash a do a full reboot at those times. I can wake up to work at 3AM but don’t ask me to stay past 10PM!! (Seriously, headache, brain fog, the works. I crash hard.)

But you can pry my late night quiet work hours from my cold dead hands.

Yeah I mean sometimes I knock out some stuff at night so I can sleep in or have a super chill morning the next day (e.g. squeeze in a video game sesh before my first meeting)

Exactly! Plus I sleep wayyyyyy better if I clear some review backlog or something (me currently churning through 10 manuscripts in my editor's docket....)

Science/research doesn't really get acknowledged for the creative thought required... Can you tell artists and writers "you must produce x, y, z within these hours"? Some can do this, but for so much of it, you can't force it.

🫡 I never got why it was super important for everyone in the world to have their preferred work hours... except for me.
