Why are they only focusing women? (This is a rectorial question). Do they work when. Men take them? A lot of the women taking anti depressants aren't taking them for depression. Although I'd argue that the evidence for them as pain relief is shaky but that's all doctors seem willing to give women.

Chronic bipolar depression here—diagnosed 29 years ago (!). I read that in bipolar type II (my particular diagnosis), the ratio of depressive episodes to hypomanic episodes is 60-something to one… which totally jibes with *my* experience. The highest unaliving incidence of all mood disorders, too.

For that matter, the depression comes back sometimes. People in the US need access to competent mental health practitioners -- and we need to subsidize medical school and education for people with the aptitude and interest, in order to be able to have enough people working!
