I’ve seen this exact text replicated a ton of times in the social media wild now (same ages cited, same missed milestones) and…are homeschooling influencers aware that it’s like very possible to be *bad* at homeschooling?

I also wonder whether they would somehow think it was a problem if a kid educated in a traditional school couldn’t read at grade level? Or do they think not learning to read at home is better than not learning to read at school

You're all good. And yeah, I know the exact type you refer to. They homeschool or "unschool" for themselves, not the kids.

I’m not even saying you’re necessarily a bad homeschooler if your 8yo isn’t reading chapter books! I’m just saying that bragging about your performance in an area that is largely unregulated and where you can make it a long time before anyone notices you’ve failed at it is an oddly confident choice
