i think this one is more legitimate than some other russian vessels, since it is registered in Cook islands thats under New Zealand and King charles is state head :D So i guess they have more regulations than some other poorer countries? But its just a guess.

International maritime law is not managed by countries so country of registration/flag confers responsibility but not jurisdiction-these laws go back to at least the 15th C when France, England, France, Spain & Portugal were sailing around the planet & having wars & piracy

I think there might be some interesting references to airline terrorism as I think flights follow international maritime law when flying in international airspace-in any event, I think how this trial/case turns out will be interesting/enlightening

Yes, this will be very interesting. Btw ... if I remember right the captain of the ship "Newnew Polar Bear" (owned by state of China?), which was earlier cutting the cables, was detained in China.

It will be very interesting to see if the vessel has real documents or are they faked and has the vessel been following the official procedures of regular ship inspections. If I remember right there were some lacks in the condition of the ship, but nothing really fatal when FI inspectors checked it
