I lost my brother two days ago. In the time since then my dad, who regularly got into loud arguments with him, has cried his eyes out. He also mentioned paying $17K on a funeral. I can't help but think how that money might have been better spent on heart surgery that could have kept him alive.

Feel this deeply. Might also delete later, but brother went from the big S in 2021, and we kept the note away from dad - who just passed earlier this year. We never told him how his son never named him in it, he wouldn't have changed his ways. I cried for my brother, not for him.

Dad has been so very sad these past few days. I think he wishes he had been a lot kinder to Jason.
Hindsight is 20/20.. Survivor's Guilt is truly the hardest part if you ask me of these situations

It has been a terrible weekend. Again, I might delete these posts later. I only made them because Dad has no idea what Bluesky even is. My family is just beneath the line where tragedy is common. It is sometimes possible for us to forget that suffering is our lot, until.

I feel bad making this post and might delete it later. He didn't _want_ my brother to die. But it was the kind of thing where his upbringing told him he wasn't _supposed_ to do things for his grown adult kid. As a result, Dad is still out the money, and Jason is gone too.
Sorry for your loss. The same mentality toward spending is causing a ton of problems in my family right now too. Makes me want to scream in my parents' faces.

Since I wrote that, I've had it pointed out to me that heart surgery tends to cost a lot more than 17K. That makes me feel a bit better about dad, but once again absolutely hopeless about the state of medical care in the US.
