There are definitely some racists who would do that for free. I would like to know what the process looks like inside, and whether ICE would know the difference. Does ICE check footsoldier IDs on dropoffs? From the outside, it's random unmarked cars with masked unbadged drivers showing up.
Right now, they are doing planned specific raids with planned return times, so it would be hard for random independent terrorists to join in without being invited. But we know Miller is not happy with this pace, so he's probably pushing for all-day randomness.

I think the idea is that it’s so chaotic that some militia types are joining in either for fun or profit in informal ways. (Some seem to think Trump himself hired them but that seems more fringe.) I’ve heard some ppl say the 287g program is actually deputizing civilians.
Some seem v convinced that law enforcement has deputized militia types as volunteer reserves (like Arpaio’s posse) and they are volunteers.

I think I’ve heard the thing where they’re hired more. The idea that ICE can’t hit their quotas with the number of officers that they have. That part is true, but it’s what they’ve dragged in CPB, HSI, FBI, etc. for some of the raids. But I the other version is out there too.

It is a common belief among certain leftward commentators that (1) the Trump administration has staffed the ranks of ICE with significant amounts of J6ers, Proud Boys, militia members, etc. and/or (2) the same cast of reprobates are cosplaying as ICE agents to do white supremacist violence.
But what are the logistics?
That’s a good question that I don’t think the conspiracy theorists grapple with. There seems to be a belief that the administration enrolled the J6ers straight out of prison and hired the militia men from the groups’ meetings, Discords, or whatever. I’m not aware of any serious evidence.
This can be found both in more mainline liberal circles (who don’t quite conceive of any legitimate law enforcement agency being that evil) and some more radical groups (who believe that Trump is doing this to build an unaccountable personal gestapo).
I do not say that it is common because a majority believe it, but because it is easy to find people insisting this is the case in comments whenever a plain-clothes ICE agent does something awful.

ICE is using "independent contractors" to round up immigrants. There is supposedly a bounty on each person brought in.... maybe $2000/head. Many people believe that ICE is using J6 pardonees as ICE. The degrees to which ICE is willing to go to to catch them would appear to substantiate the rumors.

Don’t know where to find it but I saw (a thread? A post?) of photos of some J6 rioters next to ICE kidnappers and it’s the same humans. We always knew there was a large contingent of right-wing federal employees who have no concept of the constitution, this is just another instance of that.
