Does anyone have a good alternative to qBittorrent? I'm having a reoccurring problem, where the speed just trickles down to zero and often leads to the program crashing which often leads to qbittorrent being unable to be closed and needing to do a hard restart on my machine, which sucks.

Are you sure it's qbittorrent and not firewall settings throttling traffic on you?

I'm not sure! Networking stuff has never really clicked for me but I figure if my traffic is being throttled then when I run a speed test it should also be throttled, but I'm getting fast speeds while my client grinds to a halt.

It might be as simple as making sure your torrent port is open to outbound traffic

Did you hook up your VPN to qBittorrent so qBittorrent can only operate while the VPN is up?

Uhhhh that sounds like either a network problem or a failing drive

You could try something like Deluge as an alternative, but really, this sounds 100% like a network/settings problem. So you might have the same problem if you switch. (Assuming you already tried reinstalling etc.)

I've uninstalled, updated, and can't figure out what setting would be fucking this up.

Go here and type in 6881 as your port. This site will tell you if the port qbit uses (6881 by default) is open or closed. If it's closed (very common issue) that could explain your problem. canyouseeme.org

Ok it is closed (so thank you!) and I don't know why. I have a port forwarding rule set up for that machine for that port so I'm not sure what's going on but I've already spent too much of my day on this. I appreciate the help nonetheless.

I use KTorrent on Linux but have similar problems, although usually it just slows the system to a crawl rather than freezing and requiring a reset. I think it could be high memory utilization that you can mitigate somewhat by limiting simultaneous uploads and downloads, as well as upload speed.
