It is, at this time, VERY convenient for politicians to take a hard stance against "Trump troops" in IL. Easy win. It's next to impossible, however, for any of them to come swinging against the feds. This would mean acknowledging the status quo is already rotten, decoupling them from local PDs, etc

Active transphobia is death drive - "the compulsion to repeat" - par excellence. Bigots subjecting themselves to stimuli they find disturbing *as a hobby.* Freud said the drive looked like "daemonic force at work" and, when I see anti-trans "activists," they look possessed by something awful.
I think the sort of "active" transphobia practiced by people Linehan, Rowling, et al (as opposed to the more passive transphobia of bigots who don't spend their free time being transphobic) can be looked at in the same light as Morgellons, chronic Lyme, gangstalking and other internet brain diseases
I can't imagine a more comfortable hill to die on than the hill of cis-hertero-patriarchy. The whole world is already constructed around supporting and maintaining the hill but, somehow, everyone who decides to stand there and take a stand against trans people, completely loses their mind.

I'm not sure! Networking stuff has never really clicked for me but I figure if my traffic is being throttled then when I run a speed test it should also be throttled, but I'm getting fast speeds while my client grinds to a halt.
I've uninstalled, updated, and can't figure out what setting would be fucking this up.
Does anyone have a good alternative to qBittorrent? I'm having a reoccurring problem, where the speed just trickles down to zero and often leads to the program crashing which often leads to qbittorrent being unable to be closed and needing to do a hard restart on my machine, which sucks.

I'm glad Johnson hasn't gone the route of Mayor Bowser, who seems to have welcomed the military occupation of DC, but his EO is mostly an affirmation that CPD can't assist the feds, which they already aren't allowed to do but have already been doing. I'm sure the cops welcome the occupation.

To a lot of these people politics is just stuff they don’t support. So kicking a kid out for being queer isn’t political but being openly queer is a politic.
So I re-read the question and now I get what you're saying. It's not about "opposing political views" because that implies two people doing politics, instead one person is being political. I gotcha.
I think that's correct but also (I believe?) would run up against the point I'm making lol (which is maybe what you're doing but the tone of this is so agreeable!)
- While I do think more americans have an emotional stake in politics than they ever have in my lifetime, I also think a good chunk of those 'non-voters' have a narrow view of what constitutes politics and simply can't imagine going no-contact over how someone voted.
- I would wager that a good chunk of those 89% of Trump voters who said no would readily kick their visibly queer kid out of their house (and some probably have!) and are filing that under something other than politics in their understanding of the question
Couple things about this: - Many respondents are saying no as a kind of conservative virtue signaling, in that the family, as a unit, is *the* most important structure in the country and to suggest that you would purposefully tear apart that unit would be a contradiction in values.

On my first appearance on my podcast I made this explicit connection and I'm not sure I've ever seen it made anywhere else. Just an oddly beautiful film.

I do think this argument is convincing to people because nearly every policy decision made in my adult life has been backed by "data," and one of the specters we're going to have to exhume from our world is the idea that data is in any way an objective measurement of reality.
The argument being laid out here - that the people donating to think tanks are parties interested in the results of objective data analysis - is ridiculous. Data is never flat. People donate to think tanks to harness data towards whatever ends the donors see fit. Ends that effect real people's lives
