Counterpoint: Trump is on his website loudly celebrating Colbert's cancellation. On its face, that seems like strong evidence that cancelling Colbert was effective appeasement, ten months or no.

It’s not uncontrollable. Colbert is not really controllable, you negotiate with him. He would not abide by whatever control they tried to exert on him. Now, they’ll just fire him for breech of some clause in his contract. He’ll be somewhere else long before next May. 1/2
