The most wishlisted game on steam of all time will do that. With GTA 6 Rockstar gave a release date a year in advance. That comparison alone speaks volumes to the scope of how large this game has gotten. TC have money and options very few other indies have. Multiple things can be true.

The thing is it's pretty standard for indies to announce a game this close to release. Even a team like them can't afford to announce a release date months out because things in indie development change constantly. Giving a date a year out and then constantly changing it will make people frustrated.

They were literally at the Xbox showcase in the most awkward way possible and were ready enough to have demos for two major conventions. I have a friend who just put out a game and had to push it back 3 days and he's a solo dev that stuff happens.

Yes but also they said the next major news would come from themselves, not at a gaming event.

As you also just said though plans can change and they did announce their announcement at Gamescom. It could've went the same way with Xbox's event

I mean it happened during gamescom but it wasn't at gamescom itself.

still cannot emphasize enough how little all of this matters. 3 dudes should not have to shoulder the weight of the industry off the back of a 57k AUD kickstarter 11 years ago.

speaking as someone who plays a ton of games and doesn't just spend time bitching about them online : there's like 10+ games that come out a day now. nobody has all the time in the world to play all these games. if it wasn't silksong it would be another high profile game. misplaced anger.

I don't think they're angry tbh, just expressing some frustration i mean it's not like they're calling Team Cherry evil and horrible. They definitely didn't have bad intentions, just kept their heads down and made something they loved.

regardless of whether they're angry or not, still absolutely unrealistic expectations. if it wasn't silksong, their games would still be at the mercy of a potential new trend, sleeper indie or whatever. the industry sucks, if you want to scream online scream at the big corpos, at least

Okay so here's a thought experiment to go through. Say Expedition 33 came out in the past two weeks since Silksong was dated. And ready for release big indie darling this year. Do you think it gets even a fraction of attention it's gotten with Silksong's media specter hanging over it.

It was playable at Gamescom at the Nintendo booth that's how people learned it was 120fps on SW2. That stuff isn't an accident it's smart marketing.

I don't think they're selfish though, just doing things how they're used to.
