Ooh ooh my favorite piece of lore was the fact that y'all used to be a pirate site, and now you act like a monopoly.
That time @cringebringerdx.bsky.social bought me a 3 month subscription gift card because I couldn't get my card to work on renewing my Account and you cancelled it anyway and didn't credit the gift card after using it. Meaning to keep access I had to Buy another subscription.
And when I contacted customer support they gave the unhelpful answer of "In order to change your payment method we need to fully cancel your subscription *hyuck hyuck*" Seriously Hate that y'all have a basic monopoly on legal anime.
And I hope y'all do get "Carried off by Crows" like your death omen tag says.
The execs/Decision makers not the poor intern having to deal with the backlash
I think there's something up specifically with their 3-month cards. I gave up buying them because EVERY time for like a year straight they wouldn't work and I'd have to go through their shitty cust. support. They won't take my card for subs either, BUT they'll take it for merch for some reason.
Crunchyroll screws over everyone in the industry person by person for money.
The fact that not every title licensed by the company even gets a home media release, and those that do receive that treatment that aren't the more popular series are usually the forgettable isekais.
You guys are getting cooked on this post lol. Maybe this poor intern should forward it to their bosses
When you guys stole David Wald's private fanmail without asking and decided not to tell him about it!
Crunchyroll's social media person right now.
That you stole mail from people
When you bought out Funimation and that also ended Madman as a result; and now the Radiant S2 part 2 blurays are forever in unreleased limbo with no disc release in any language.
When you destroyed your own community by nuking the comments AND reviews
Where are the fucking Gundam Blu-ray's
You bought out several key players in the industry, then did fuck and all with it while trying to wipe your asses because everyone saw you shit yourself publicly as you threw a fit about even the idea of talking to an acting union.
OLM, the animation studio that makes Pokemon, also made Berserk (1997).
I didn't expect someone to directly answer the question. Also, cool.
How about when you guys bought Right Stuf, the only reliable place to order less-popular manga in the US, and then removed all adult content from the store, rendering it useless to half your customer base?
Don’t forget they killed their site so we’d have to use Crunchy’s incredibly shitty online store.
Joke's on them because I stopped buying physical manga from them the second they got rid of the adult content.
I've got a fun one: when funimation now got merged into crunchyroll, the likely thousands of hours of work on great closed captions for the english dubs on that site were thrown in the fucking garbage and replaced with AI-generated captions for the majority of titles
literally all you had to do was make a batch script that trimmed the first few seconds of every srt file to account for the funimation now intro. I will never understand why you chose not to use this incredibly useful accessibility function that already had the principal work done on it
That time y’all decided to recast the VA for the main character of Mob Psycho 101’s dub rather than even entertain his request to just talk about allowing union work in future productions.
They kept the sex pest, though!
Whos the sex pest?
chris niosi, i think they're talking about. aratala reigen's english dub va
It's so hard when there are so many! My mind immediately went to Vic Mignogna
I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOHT VIC MIGNOGNA. this did prompt me to update myself on his situation. i also thought of scott freeman. i'm so thankful funimation + others cut ties with both of them following. so what is crunchyroll's excuse with niosi!?!?
lol you are getting destroyed in the quote-skeets and also the replies
Oh heres an underrated one! Apparantly you guys don't care about people's privacy? Kind of a big one overlooked from 2023
That time when your execs stole gifts that the fans sent to your Voice Actors
Long long ago we had Funimation for Dubs, Crunchy Roll for subs and RightStuff for cool DVDs and swag Now we have Monopoly Roll where dubs/subs have janky releases buried under a slogg of shows (some being censored) and no more hentai DVDs for sale Bring back quality content cowards
Watching anime with subtitles with the comfort that the translators have a living wage
when are you guys reprinting those gundam blu rays
Crunchyroll recast Mob for Mob Psycho 100 season 3 because they thought sitting down and having a conversation with SAG-AFTRA was too scawy aw my gawsh guys
dont forget that they let christopher niosi, the english va for reigen stay on despite him admitting to physically and sexually abusing his coworkers
oh I was not aware of this! this fucking blows actually!
Once upon a time, there was a show called Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These. Crunchyroll dubbed the first three seasons, but not the fourth. We all lived crappily ever after. The end.
I was gonna mention this. I can't believe how this made any sense.
I have reappropriated your meme comrade o7
I love this comment section for you @crunchyroll.com Now listen to what people are saying and fix your crap. Or go bankrupt. Goodness knows, you've probably killed more series thank you've helped create.
So. Your post isn't going the way you wanted it to.
Watching your stuff on pirate sites. If you won't fork out the cash, neither will I
Anyways I encourage everyone to drop their subscription and start pirating these companies never learn unless it hits their pocket books.
Even better, boycott them entirely and do something useful with your free time
You guys fucking suck and are killing the anime industry. Pay your vas more and stop treating them like shit you anti union scumbags.
how about when you guys started out by stealing from fansubs and putting it behind paywalls? or maybe your new strategy of just outsourcing subbing to chatGPT? Silence, Brand.
Oh that explains why the subtitles in Dandadan suck now. I could have sworn they were better in season 1
They started with the deer girl anime nokotan is what I heard.
why i decided to watch on netflix instead
That you don't pay your talent, that you're enforcing a monopoly on anime stateside in an egregious way, and that you've dabbled in shitty fucking AI translations!
your shirt look like a dishrag
Black Clover.
Neon Genesis Evangelion.
That time you stole people's crowdfunding money swallowing Right Stuff and killed the Dirty Pair release. I wonder why? 🤔 bsky.app/profile/popa...
Y'all opened a voice actor's fan mail and stole the gifts fans had made for/sent him.
Holy shit i forgot about that
Your firing kyle mcarrley, the main VA for mob psycho, because you didnt want to work with the union, but kept on self-confessed serial abuser chris niosi lol
this isnt going how you planned, is it
you cost too much money
How about when you ruined AnimeLab by replacing it Funimation then replacing that with Crunchy roll for more money and a worse interface.
After reading the hell that is this thread, I just want to go home, play some guitar and have some pineapple salad.
Crunchyroll started out as a website streaming illegal fansubs for profit, and none of that profit ever went back to the fans that created the videos in the first place.
crunchyroll fired Kyle Mccarley, the english va for mob in mob psycho 100 because they asked for a pay raise, thus both lowering the quality of the dub while also screwing over a voice actor while allowing chris niosi, the va for reigen to stay on despite having sex abuse allegations
Not even allegations, Niosi admitted to being a serial abuser himself.
Remember when you let a lot of RightStuff and Funimation licenses expire so there's a ton of anime that nearly became lost media overnight were it not for piracy? Which is why a lot of Gundam series also aren't on BluRay?
A long time ago, a kickstarter for dubbing Dirty Pair hit its goal before you gobbled up Rightstuf and I'd like to have the discs I paid for at some point, please!!
Same!
Crunchyroll used to be a piracy site, now they're corporate slop
Anime lore? Probably when you started paying those former fansubbers $80 an episode, or when you killed the Dirty Pair Blu rays. Conflicted which one is worse.
That i will never subscribe to CR because you are such a horrible company
I only recently used Crunchyroll for the first time and was taken aback by your appalling subtitles. I then found out you were using AI instead of a person. That was enough for me not to continue my subscription. Had no idea about all this other stuff. What a shit company.
Half the shows are incomplete in my territory. Wolf's Rain OVA's? Cowboy Bebop Movie? Why do we have the Great Pretender movie but not the show? Same with Eureka Seven? Clear Card but no Cardcaptor? Yashahime but no InuYasha?
And I know this sounds petty and cringe but everyone else is repeating the same points, so fuck It i'm giving out my own pet peeve. Also, yes, I definetely had shitty experiences with slow-down and bad translations too.
Crunchyroll is owned and operated by Sony yet somehow has the objectively worst video streaming app on the entire PlayStation Network.... last time I checked, the UI hadn't been updated in over a decade
The time you were a illegal streaming website, with also an adult section And now you are killing all other players, on top of doing nothing on older releases
Haven’t had a good old fashioned “I’m just here for the comments” moment in a while. Feels nice.
Like how you destroyed Rightstuf?
they’re kicking your ass in the QRTs
Remember when you spent money you were supposed to be using to support the anime industry you already underpay to start making original animation, only to then absolutely screw over those original creators with horrible advertising and the budget of a corn chip?
On top of every other thing y’all are getting dragged in the comments & quotes for, how about how you’ll dub every trash het isekai the industry dumps out but you treat yuri, shoujo, slife-of-life, etc. like it’s got the plague you’ll dub Sexpest Harem No. 35263 but not Bocchi the Rock?
it's fuckin NUTS that a show as good as skip and loafer has never gotten an english dub
This reminds me of how an anime I loved got picked up by Funimation years ago for an official sub and dub, and 10+ years later, even after their app fused with Crunchy Roll, it’s just never happened. But they got the rights so nobody else can do it; as far as I know. We just love that. 😑
how tf could they not dub bocchi???
And yet it's dubbed all over the world as we have been getting dubs of it that isn't English!
I actually really liked the French dub. But yeah, the fact that no English dub exists to this day bothers me a LOT.
It was even just announced to be getting a new German dub...with the songs all dubbed in German!
"...with the songs all dubbed in German!" Guess I'm rewatching Bocchi AGAIN, but in German. I want to hear those German song covers lol.
Don’t forget Symphogear. We’ve still never gotten a dub. T_T
MANNNNN REMOW NEEDS TO GET THEIR DUBBING STUDIO THEY OUTSOURCE THEIR DUBS TO TO DO DO IT YOURSELF TRINA DEUHART OR BAY DOXEY AS SERUFA YUU IS LIKE. THE BEST CASTING CHOICES NO JOKE
On top of that, where the hell are proper categories? No one thinks we might be looking to find yuri (and others)?
You still haven't dubbed Bocchi The Rock yet despite being a big series.
And yet, the anime is dubbed overseas and is now getting a German dub with the songs dubbed and you gave it a crappy Sub Only release.
crunchyroll is a criminal enterprise
That Crunchyroll still hasn't shipped the Dirty Pair set they're obligated to fulfill from the kickstarter four years ago. The hell is up with that?
positive trans representation so they don't want to ship it. maybe if it was World's End Harem they'd have shipped it already lmao
Definitely my favorite episode of the series, especially the Hamburger scene :D!
Turn them into the better business bureau unless they refund the backers either way there's got to be avenues to use
Doesn't that violate FTC rules and regulations?
I wouldn't know for sure, but it sure doesn't sound good
Unfortunately they are under no legal obligation to fulfill anything. No Kickstarter project is under such a thing. It’s a common misunderstanding of the platform.
Except RS allowed things to be bought after the kick starter ended, on their own site.
That is indeed a different thing and becomes a legal issue I’m not qualified to talk about being from another country.
Outside of US this isn't true. KS needs to follow the same regulations as everyone else As in, I don't think it's a misunderstanding. It's more likely people actually exist outside of the US
I hadn't considered that this might run afoul of international trade laws! It makes me wonder if anyone might act upon that 🤔
It’d end up being a class action where a handful of people get 20 euros in 10 years.
One can only hope that something like that would cause Crunchyroll to be held to take for the awful things they've done
US usually doesn't follow laws, but when Specifically Italy or Germany is affected they have been able to force resolutions. An example is the Darkest Dungeon boardgame which was forced to facilitate returns on any unshipped wares Sadly, while the laws exists they aren't enforced outside of EU
I hate that the US has essentially become a country with laws that are followed by those who are too poor to avoid them
This is why most scam artists, aka successful businesses, move to the US Especially since they get to then choose a state with laws that fit their agenda
Your website and service was better when you were a piracy site
the time that you had to pay me in a class-action settlement after you illegally sold my personal data genuinely just the worst streaming platform i've ever paid for
the at least three separate times i couldn't finish watching a show because, instead of sending a message using your site's own messaging service or making a news post or even just putting a note on the show's web page, crunchyroll made a single forum post
the time i paid to read "we forgot to translate this bit" instead of know what this guy said
you know, now that i think about it? i think my favorite piece of anime lore is the kickstarter rewards for the dirty pair dub that you still owe me. i was supposed to get them from rightstuf years ago but, as per usual, crunchyroll's done a very bad job
You fuckers took down the best site to purchase anime blurays and your store is absolutely pathetic, your UI sucks ass. You're now using AI subs, you pieces of absolute shit
A piece of anime lore that lives rent-free in my head is that you have not released any of these yuri anime on blu-ray.
Crunchyroll has created a monopoly that destroyed physical media and has turned anime into another subscription service instead of something to enjoy.
Yep I don't even mind it being digital mostly now but all the other bullshit they ruined..
I can agree with that. Im just an old millenial with nostalgia lol.
Same even new anime conventions suck
Here's a piece of lore that lives rent free in my head. You used to be a respected site for anime and now you're a festering wound on the asscrack of society that steals from artists and can't even be bothered to pay your fair share to your workers. You're a disgrace of a company. Shame on you.
Some, If not all, anime creators are horny bastards. Don't believe me? Watch the show about girls on an island who can turn into weapons by getting a hands free orgasm. You know the one.
Are you still using AI to sub your shows
You had the rights to urusei yatsura for about 5 years and didn't stream it until!!! Hidive got the rights to the remake. You also had the rights to the movies which didn't see the light of day until the blueray came out.
oh i know.... when yall singlehandedly massacred the anime industry and took a big steaming wet shit on all the people who, up until that point, had been loyal supporters for many many years. yeah that lore will always live rent free in my head.
Yep this is going about how I would have expected. Sorry Bluesky brand account manager, we know it's not your fault.
That time y'all hired event hosts for your anime expo panels who know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the stuff they're hyping up and looking extremely hip and cringe in the process
Is there a way read more about this?
Time stamped youtu.be/9DcPxDnyCCg?...
Thank you very much!
Link?
Crunchyroll publicly makes a stink about AI subtitles, however there are still English subtitles that were clearly AI generated.
Crunchyroll fired the va for Mob because he asked them to at least CONSIDER having a SINGLE MEETING with SAG-AFTRA. Crunchyroll bought out RightStuf and promised to honor the Dirty Pair Kickstarter that they had already completed, then buried it and hasn't said anything about it in over 2 years.
Crunchyroll stole a va's mail and gave out their contents to in-house employees, which is literally a felony. Crunchyroll supports pedophiles via their decision to license the Ruroni Kenshin reboot, a franchise created by a guy who had SO MUCH CP ON HIS PC THE COPS THOUGHT HE WAS SELLING IT.
There was a time when Crunchyroll had a "free with ads" model, and their mobile app was so dogshit at loading ads it would crash the app so regularly that it was basically unusable. Crunchyroll's official response to customer complaints about this for the longest time was "buy premium to fix it lol"
Crunchyroll once lied to a game studio making a LEGAL Tower of God game claiming they had exclusivity contracts with the va's, and threatened legal action if they tried to hire them. They told this to the va's as well and threatened to blacklist them if they signed on to va in the game.
Crunchyroll started out as a pirate streaming site! But unlike most other pirate sites at the time, they locked their stolen goods behind a paywall. Worse still, those fansubs were often stolen directly from the fansubbers without their even knowing. Did they get a cut of that paywall money? Nope!
Crunchyroll had to settle a class-action lawsuit for illegally selling registered users personal information without their knowledge or consent for YEARS. Crunchyroll once produced an original anime, but delayed its release for 2 years because the anti-lgbtq+ chuds said mean mean about them.
In 2019 the va for Reigen, Chris Niosi, was accused of sexual abuse, to which he admitted publicly was true. Did Crunchyroll drop him? No! Didn't even make a statement! So remember future va's: being a sex pest is fine, but wanting a liveable wage for your fellow va's is a step too far!
Mmmmmmm I remember this time. I watched 100 episodes of Eyeshield 21 before getting fed up and switching to bootleg streaming sites because *those* popup ads didn’t crash my app.
Crunchyroll stole people's Dirty Pair Kickstarter money.
I remember when you used to be cool
Crunchyroll was never cool.
Damn, y'all getting your ass whooped in the comments.
Ya love to see it! Another corpo boutta deactivate.
So how about the Gundam blurays? You know, I'm still waiting on volume 2 of Turn A Gundam... *taps fingers on desk*
That monopolies like you should eat shit.
This has got to be my favourite version of this meme I've seen so far, thank you
animators, actors, mangakas and almost every worker in the manganime industry dont get paid even close to enough for their labour that produces infinite value will ceos steal all the cash will doing zero to negative work
When you guys messed up bitrates and went after the honest employee who told the truth 💕
my favorite anime lore is that your translations are so notoriously poor that from day one of crunchyroll's existence, cr's subs were released as "horriblesubs" on nyaa.
Hahaha, everyone is shitting on you in the quotes and replies. You guys suck at this social media marketing stuff! I'm sorry if the poor intern you forced to do this is feeling bad about the shitstorm coming their way, but just know that the people at the top get all the blame. Not you, buddy. Okay?
You started out by selling fansubs.
Can't because you've made so much anime inaccessible 🤷♂️
When you merged with Funimation, the log-in info I had for Funimation apparently wouldn't work but my card for the old subscription did, so I had to go through the bank and dispute the charge because there was no way I could file a claim otherwise.
That time I switched to YouTube for Dragonball Z episodes because all CR had was 240p with corrupted sections and tinny audio. Oh wait that's still a thing.
Just one of the biggest anime series of all time that you have exclusive rights to, nbd.
Don't think we've forgotten that time you fired Leah Clark from ADR directing because of her disability.
How your actors and employees have to live "rent-free" to survive solely off the wages you give them and blacklist anyone who wants to make things better. And let's not even get started on how you're trying to monopolize anime and run Toonami out of business. toonamisquad.com/opinion-the-...
I forgot about VRV! God they used to advertise that at every con
You really don't want me answering this. Just trust me on that
They don't Everyone on the replies really does though
drag 'em, sis
Come on Sam, you know you wanna
All the cool kids are doing it
But there's so much to work with! - Sony installing sycophants & people who hate anime to Crunchyroll's C-suite - CR outright killing two iconic and important brands after buyouts - CR destroying the biggest online anime shop - CR botching Dirty Pair's KS... - CR having a big mad over Dan Da Dan...
A lot of people don't know Sony is behind this. They also did it to Funimation but since people already disliked Funimation for region locking their English dubs it went unnoticed. But customer service and fan interaction went to the crapper once Sony bought the company.
CR putting massive advertising towards Shield Hero because they had a vested stake in it being successful
> Sony That explains so much.
"But Sam," I ask, "what about the (alleged) mail tampering? Or the (alleged) union-busting, or the (alleged) trans casting issues, or the (alleged) machine-translated subs?"
... What about the fact that CR killed digital copies that folks paid for and still have yet to make them whole? ... Or when they killed their highly successful free plan to try and coax out more paying subs? ... Or that time CR got sued for sharing user data with third parties without consent?
Oh, that's all? Doesn't seem like all that much.
There's a fine line between playfully stirring the pot and jeopardizing some shit, and I try not to cross that often.
Oh sure. I was just setting you up in case you had more in the hopper.
I could go for days, but I think I'll let everyone else have some fun.
Is that why the shows I bought on Steam no longer work?
To be honest? No clue. I don't know how Steam video works. Shit, I didn't know they had a video section.😅
Yeah, Crunchyroll had a whole promotion with them in 2016/17 and I bought e.g. the rakugo anime series there. Might just be Steam dropping support tbf
What's the context for the DanDaDan bit, I missed that episode
It was reported in Bloomberg. Crunchyroll SVP Markus Gerdemann had a big mad when Netflix was announced as a second streamer for Dan Da Dan, and sent orders to refuse to stop marketing it.
That's a new one for me.. Not surprised though.
Wow
doesn’t even BEGIN to convey the amount to which we so very much do.
I never spent a dime on your company.
you guys suck btw
crunchyroll withheld a voice actor’s fan mail from them, and also opened it behind his back
not true! it was *every* voice actor's fan mail
Remember that time you guys bought RightStuf and decided to do fuckall with any of their licensed catalog? Turn A Gundam isn't available to stream, it never has legally been available in the west AT ALL outside of the Blu-Rays that Right Stuf licensed. You own the rights for it. Do something.
Not to mention ALL of the licensed Gundam series under RS are now out of print, and their blu-rays are all exorbitantly expensive now.
Oh better yet remember that time you guys bought RightStuf and then essentially stole almost $1million in USD from their Kickstarter to dub Dirty Pair? How's the AI subtitling going though? You guys are thieves and an anime graveyard. Congrats on the 10 year journey from beloved to vilified.
minor correction: crunchyroll was never beloved
Revisionism, people really liked them and the people who worked for them in the mid-2010s.
their subs were (and still are) available as "horriblesubs" on nyaa.
Ramifications of chud anime fans taking one college JP-101 class and then dropping it before JP-102.
"You canceled your subscription"
Your company gutted the most beloved and trusted anime retail website in North America and jas been sitting on the Dirty Pair Kickstarter they planned for several years now.
I’m surprised you haven’t deleted this the way all the comments and reposts are raking you over the coals and calling you out on your bullshit.
bsky.app/profile/teil...
The fact that your AI-generated subtitles run afoul of disability laws in the United States at the very least and that everyone should report the shoddy quality of them to the FCC, who will impose grievous fines for every instance of shit subtitling.
Yall have destroyed the anime landscape in the west
You should probably just leave
My favorite anime moment was when Goku killed Crunchyroll then went to the afterlife to destroy Crunchyrolls soul, wiping it from existence. Bluesky is not a place of honor for you. Leave.
Crunchyroll is attempting to establish itself as a monopoly, screwing over creators and consumers.
When I cancelled my subscription due to your weirdness. I'll get my anime elsewhere, thanks. I'd sooner give my friend five bucks a month for his plex server.
When Goku went Super Saiyan.
I heard that Crunchyroll was started by Miami Mike.
I love how the social media person dropped this question expecting stuff like when a character got super embarrassed or something, but then the fans were like…
That Crunchyroll let all of their voice actors go post funimation merger, because they refused to have a single conversation with SAG-AFTRA. One Punch Man lost its highly popular, star VA for season 3 as a result.
Get ratio'd !
Kyle McCarley, the original dub actor for Mob in Mob Psycho 100, was recast for season 3 because Crunchyroll wasn't willing to have a single conversation with SAG-AFTRA.
Are ya winning, crunchy roll?
That many people donated lots of money to the Dirty Pair Kickstarter and we would all like the discs, please.
This all the way. 720 thousand dollars down the drain right now.
Piece of fucking garbage company.
Amuro Ray became an ace pilot by drinking pool water every day for a year.
The decline of the Funimation Channel off Verizon FiOS in 2013ish, also how you ended Funimation outright you Sony sсuм
lol bittorrent
when crunchyroll used shitty AI to translate subtitles which got so many things wrong its embarassing. AI is never going to be as accurate as a human translator. theres too much nuance in the differences of language from cadence, pronunciation, and sentence structure.
Of course the multi million dollar corporation can't do the bare minimum
I've come to borrow the righteous flames in the replies [affixes marshmallow to stick]
Fun fact! You cannot watch Kaguya Sama Love is War S1 in Spain! That is not cool, Mr.Crunchyroll!
there are loads of anime pirate sites out there that are way better to use than crunchyroll which is ironic since crunchyroll used to be a pirate site themselves back in their early days also crunchyroll is ran by greedy assholes
that time last month when you laid off one of my friends, as well as numerous other people because of 'restructuring'
That time you licensed 'Interspecies Reviewers' and then gave up simuldubbing the series by Episode 3, claiming that the show went against your company's standards (even though you've dubbed shows just as bad as this.). But you still held onto the rights, just so no one else can release the show.
Cutting off your services to public libraries. Worst anime villainy ever
Rachel from Tower of god is a bitch.
You used to be worth using.
You laid off multiple employees the same day you decided to announce Channing Tatum would be in the next Demon Slayer film's dub, assumedly hoping the latter would distract from the former.
Oh yeah the Gundam Blu-rays used to be super easy to buy and constantly in stock until Crunchyroll dissolved rightstuf and discontinued them.
Which fuckin' sucks, because I wanted to get G Gundam for a decent price.
Also bsky.app/profile/litt...
And what they do have, they have price gouged
Yeah i looked up some of my more obscure ones and they were running for hundreds of dollars. No one should spend that much on V Gundam. I had to spend 100 usd on a season of 00 myself
bsky.app/profile/matr...
That one time you fired the lead from the Mob Psycho dub because he wanted you to just *talk* with union reps 🙄
Did the fire him or did he leave? Either way fuck Crunchyroll.
You used to be able to buy Gundam and many other series on Blu-ray in North America until Crunchyroll bought Rightstuf and decided to let the Nozomi titles go out of print. And Crunchyroll used to have a good website.
All the moments I watched anime through piracy and never gave a cent to your shitty company are memorable. Every last second.
Y'all are COOKED
This one didn't go the way you expected, did it
This isn't even the first time, you'd think they'd have figured it out by now, lol
I honestly feel bad for the person in charge of social media over there, they're likely a severely underpaid worker who was told they had to "engage with the audience"
Yeah but they're just so bad at it, lol
Despite having a near-monopoly on anime streaming, crunchyroll's subtitles are littered with errors and poor translation because the company overworks its staff, treats them like garbage, and doesn't pay a living wage.
Those things happen *because* of having a (near-)monopoly, not despite it. No real competition, no real reason to do any better.
Even worse, they use AI subtitles now, so they don't want to pay anyone at all.
People are talking about more recent lore with chatgpt translation, anti union casting, and not delivering on Kickstarter, but I remember before Crunchyroll shifted to "legal" distribution and you took $4m of venture capital money while still distributing fan subs.
STOP using AI for subtitles! You even do it for dub subtitles, it's ridiculous. Reinstate the public library program.
Lolz
Don’t really have any lore. I’m just here to watch Crunchyroll get dragged for all the heinous shit it’s done over the years.
Anime lore? Your company not existing a few decades back. That was my favorite time as an anime fan.
How are the replies and quotes on this going for you?
When you used garbage speech recognition to subtitle Lupin III Part 2 leading to incredibly bad subtitles.
Sorry, I meant Loop On.
Sorry, my mistake, according to the subtitles the show is actually called "If I Decide"
Letting a bunch of the anime licenses you had from the funimation merger expire so certain series like Lain and steins gate blurays are rare and expensive now instead of being readily available.
im sorry social media person but i hope you can show this to your bosses so that they can shit their pants and realize what the community thinks about this stupid streaming service
I rember all the way back, 6-8 months ago when a premium sub was half the price it is now. You fired a tonne of people and want double the money? Uhh, no.
I’m just an observer.
oh here's one! region locking is ass and people shouldn't be excluded from culture based on where they live
my favourite arc is crunchyroll goes bankrupt go bankrupt and letter better people take your place
Lmao Y'all are getting roasted in the quote replies. You deserve it, assholes.
Wow, whoever is running this account really doesn't understand that the company they're representing isn't very popular, huh?
The whoever is running this account deserves a little empathy. Focus on the company, because that's the bigger issue.
What I said wasn't even that mean.
Date a Live S1&2 being streamed by Kaze in the UK and Funi in the US, but despite Sony buying and merging both into Crunchyroll, the UK streams on CR start at S3 and the discs start at *S5*.
The dubs for many popular animes on your platform do exist! But you're too cheap and don't care about subscribers at all so we don't get them and have to go elsewhere for them!
Hi Crunchyroll it's pretty shitty how your higher ups like to steal people's mail and pass it around on top of using crap AI generated subs that can't match the translations. I could go on but it makes you look like the cartoon villains that you are.
i was watching yu-gi-oh gx some years ago, the signal got cut, and in the static, jesus appeared to me and told me that anime is sinful and that everyone who watches it is going to hell. haven't watched any since then. i pray for the souls of everyone in this comments section 🙏
That’s weird cos the same thing happened to me except it was God himself and he said ‘anime is good, but Jesus isn’t my real son’, so now I’m a Jewish Weeb.
THAT WAS THE DEMIURGE!!! NOOOOOOO
that time y'all stole david wald's mail and packages :D
That Crunchyroll is a shitty fucking company, that would rather use subs from "AI" than pay anyone a fair wage. Go fuck yourselves, you sorry sacks of shit.
You were a pirate site that screwed everyone over. I
Remember those thousands of thousands of times you OPENED STOLEN MAIL
Remember when my buddies organically created a Naruto Facebook Group with over a million members over the course of five years and one day they logged in and no longer had access to it because you went to Facebook and stole it from them?
You started up as pirate website and stole fansubs behind a paywall? Or that you took down my art on Redbubble yet you don’t touch artist alleys in conventions. Like thanks I’m disabled, my house burnt down, my parents & 3 pets died. Then you take down my chibi art couple days after? F off!
Not that the company deserves to be defended but your art takedown is quite possibly not their doing. There’s a notorious guy who goes to artists shops on places like Etsy and submits copyright claims; he claims to be on behalf of CrR but turns out he doesn’t work for them and seemingly never has.
Yeah, he's basically a glorified bounty hunter. He does these takedowns, and then goes to the companies and says "I took down X number of things", and then I guess he gets paid for it?
My fav lore is how it would be easier to steal a working Gundam then get almost any dvds of Gundam.
i'm still mad about this
That mythical time when Crunchyroll actually invested in creating new fans by partnering with library anime clubs. That’s “lore,” right?
Shou Tucker is my Roman Empire. Mt. Lady's constant insane debt.
hi Person Running This Account, I hope you're doing alright. I'm sorry you're in this position and I wish you the best if and when the company that hired you rightfully burns ♡
Someone should order their person running this account a pizza
Glad someone remembered this!!
That’s fucked

I hate how true that is.
Probably the most based comment I've seen all month.
I liked that episode of Maria the Virgin Witch where she looks directly at the camera and says, "Crunchyroll started out via piracy-for-profit and their business model only became more predatory from there."
Gotta say, the episode where you trashed my digital license to Pop Team Epic Season 1 from my Blu-Ray with no means of recompense cuz you merged with Funimation (or Funimation changed its name to yours- whatever IDC) was W I L D 😂😱😂
this happened to me too! my panty and stocking digital copy is just gone forever!
My favorite lore is that anime piracy is easier than ever. No one has done more for the fandom than the pirates.
Ah screw it you know the shit behind high guardian spice
I can literally remember when you guys were a pirate site, lmao
Your upload of Record of Lodoss War was completely messed up and freezes every few seconds for the entire original run!
Crunchyroll started as a piracy website that would steal the work of fansub groups and lock it behind paywalls, which caused Fansub groups to literally encode messages during the "Brought to you in part by these sponsors" segments, warning viewers that if you paid for the subs, you got scammed
that wasn't why they did that. they were doing that back during the time period people were selling VHS tapes with fansubs on them before digisubs ever existed, and then at the turn of the millennium when people would sell VCDs on ebay burned from shows they'd download for free off IRC
i love bluesky.
This has been one of my favorite moments here 🥳
