I don’t see how it’s dumb in a game called BASEball that the object is to be safe at a BASE by standing on it.

What is dumb if taking your foot off the base. Something you learn at 6 years old when you first start to understand baseball.

He’s on the base it’s not like he’s trying to gain an advantage by hopping on it

Except for first base, which you’re allowed to run through and take as much time as you theoretically want to get back on the base. Even if you believe it’s a good rule the execution of it is incredibly dumb

You can only over run first when you are advancing from home plate and you remain in foul territory. Once you return to the base or venture into fair territory,same simple rule applies

My point is that the rule is not consistent nor is it applied consistently. The only reason to call it in cases like this is to be pedantic, but I see now that’s your whole MO
