the gen x struggle to not clarify the mood of what you've written with emojis
I do it anyway. I know what I am. π€·π½
Early on I noticed I was using them as I was worried people would misread the mood in my typing but these days it's mainly because I enjoy using them π
hahahaha! I don't even try anymore (b.1965) π laughter with tears emoji

What can I say π€·ββοΈ β₯οΈ
ππ§‘
Thatβs not our way. We genuinely want you to know our mood, mostly so youβll leave us alone.
For me it went from "please don't think I'm angry π" to "take it how you will π€·ββοΈ"
I am OG gen x ;^)

I do anyway, OR follow up the message with an appropriate gif from a) a popular media interest I have in common with any given individual, or b) a widely known enough thing that *most* people will know. History doesn't rhyme, but it sure does repeat--we've gone from hieroglyphics to heirogifics.
I lose every time. ππ«π
There are worse things to lose at ππ

Eggplant emojis mean I want a damn eggplant parm⦠not that icky meaning. Same with peaches.
In the 90s Gen X used the forerunners of emojis, emoticons i.e :( - :) - ;p - ;). Amongst others.
Yes, I remember. We still use them now :D
;)
I bowed down finally. Iβll throw in an βlolβ or smiley face or whatever I need to make sure the tone is understood. But I donβt like it. I donβt like it one bit. Unfortunately, words/alone are outdated. From here moving forward, written communication will be of emoji.
It's the age we live in, we communicate in writing far more than verbally/in person. Some people aren't fussed about having their tone misinterpreted and some are too worried. Like everything else, we just need to find a happy medium π
Somebody better make a new Rosetta Stone before the connection between written language and emojis is lost to time.

π [this means that I'm, in fact, 'laughing out loud'].
βI was taught to write in complete sentences, dammit.β
I remember when we did it with emoticons
I keep forgetting I'm trying to cut back βοΈππππ§‘π€¦ββοΈπ€·ββοΈ
Oh I'm not cutting back ππ I just make sure I use them for fun now and not because I'm worried people might not get my tone ππππ§‘π€π€
