I remember this from my hometown. We had factories there that were set up during the textile mfg. revolution at the start of the 20th century. After WW2 and the companies moved south, those massive buildings stood abandoned, and decaying. Eventually many burned down as well & few were converted.

Land is now free, it must be because otherwise the owner would do something with the land this sits on rather than let it decay while blocking redevelopment. That must be the only reason, right?
