On our side the war of 1812 is the beginning of Canada as a nation. Before the war people (parts of my family) saw themselves as British Subjects and loyalists. After the war they started calling themselves Canadian, which sewed the seeds of nationalism that lead to our sovereignty.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon there and absolutely adored it. We stayed in Nanoose Bay and spent time in Victoria and took a day trip to Ucluelet and Tofino. Tofino and Parksville were our absolute favorites, and I had the best fish and chips I've ever tasted at Troll's in Horshoe Bay!
