I’m at ‘The Night of the Hunter’ now. His finest hour? It’s an obvious choice but bar The Friends of Eddie Coyle, I can’t think of another Mitchum flick that rivals it… #BookSky💙📚 #FilmSky

Hm. When it comes to the bad guys, I would say Friends of Eddie Coyle, Night of the Hunter, not to forget his breathtaking performance in Cape Fear: m.youtube.com/watch?v=aGeF...
You’re right - his Max Cady is a phenomenal, incandescent character.
Say what? You've seen Out of the Past / Build My Gallows High, yes?
I have seen the first, not the second. I love Angel Face too and his take on Farewell My Lovely is a cracker. I just think The Night of the Hunter is a work of genius Nigel, something beyond anything else that I have seen with him in it. He made some bloody good films but that one is THE one for me.
They're the same film - different titles in different territories. Agree re NOTH though - that's the standout, although Out of the Past remains one of my favourite films.
Ha! D’oh! Sorry, I should have known 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Night Of The Hunter was a great movie, one that was way before its time
It certainly was. Audiences just weren’t ready for it - although, given the cynical bite of Film Noir preceding it, you do wonder why so few were prepared to give it a go? I guess the 1950s (and the rampant consumerism therein) just didn’t want grim truth but glossy illusion.
