Someone on this site, not too long ago, suggested freezing your credit on all 3 credit rating sites. I followed that advice and it's easy to do -- only takes a couple minutes per site and you can unfreeze if/when you need to. Your data is probably for sale on the dark web as we speak.

Freezing personal credit on all three rating sites just takes a couple of minutes and it locks would-be credit thieves out completely. I second your recommendation to do this.

Also, if you haven’t already, get hard copies of your SS work data. Keep it updated.

You can download it from the SS site as a PDF. Also, fair warning to everyone who needs to use the SS site: don't respond to links in email, even if it looks official. Type in the URL and go directly to the site. This is true for almost every site that has your personal data.

We had to freeze our credit years ago when my husband was targeted for a fraudulent unemployment claim. It is easy to freeze & well worth it. However, it can be a bit cumbersome to unfreeze should you want/have to. Also, ask ahead if all 3 need to be unfrozen. Learnt the hard way 🤪
