It's something I'm actually curious about, my rural trump-supporting relatives live in an area with no municipal trash pickup and they bribe their neighbor with food to let them use his trash cans to avoid paying the extortionate private trash removal company fees
we have all kinds of nice stuff for our tax dollars in DC our public libraries are so great for example

Finding this out btw was a real whoa I live in a bubble moment, I was like what do you mean you don't have a garbage day, you don't have trash men? Like I thought that was as fundamental as plumbing or electricity. They're only 25 min outside the city, it's not like the middle of nowhere
My Cape Cod town does not have municipal garbage service. We pay a fee for a sticker that gives households access to the town's transfer station (dump) and recycling depot. It's one reason why there are so many pickup truck owners.
My parents had this when they lived in some rented farm house in Southborough. I have an early childhood memory of my dad singing "To the dump, to the dump, to the dump dump dump" to the tune of the William Tell overture

I’m a lifelong city boy so even the “we put it out on the curb for the garbage truck” strikes me as rustic. I guess I knew you could be far enough out that you’d have to run to the dump, but a private subscription, damn.
Private subscription is really common, when they took it away in our sister city people were really mad, they enjoyed shopping around for trash service.
And to them it's crazy that people just come pick up our trash! They're like hmm sounds like some big city that's less than a half hour away from me nonsense. Hence the original post bc like obviously trump doesn't think about any of this
I've lived in the suburbs, and yes, you pay Waste Management or some other mafia-adjacent company for the weekly pickup instead. Now I'm in a city, so it's part of the extra city income taxes I pay.

I've always known that was a thing but I wouldn't've figured they'd be resentful of that. Also, lots of places don't have connected plumbing! Well water and septic tanks are extremely common. Rural electrification truly was a magnificent socialist project.
My parents don't have connected anything in suburban Massachusetts, half an hour outside of Boston. Well water, septic tank in the backyard, heating oil from a big tanker truck that shows up every now and then in the winter. They have trash pickup though
When I lived in Texas, I lived for a while in an area that got its electric from one of the rural electric coops LBJ (that notorious socialist) established.
I grew up out on the great plains We (and our neighbors) had giant steel drums we would put trash into and occasionally light on fire When the drums were completely full of ash, we would dump them in a pit on the property where we would also shoot guns
This is actually what their next door neighbors do, except instead of shooting guns they ride atvs around

I live in a rural area. You can pay to get a private dumpster that they’ll pick up maybe once a month, or you can take it to the dump yourself. We do a dump run about once a month and a big part of our system is minimizing any food trash that might attract bears or raccoons.
when i was a luxury condo concierge downtown there was an owner who mostly stayed at her second home, a house outside the city. she would show up at the tower at like 9 pm and start unloading weeks of garbage bags into the big dumpster from outta the trunk of her blue bmw

i don't think anybody in my town outside of like. landlords bother with private trash pickup, it's just a weekly chore to load the trunk up with your garbage and recycling and run it up to the transfer station
