You’re unemployed in 2025? Tough shit. But we’ll definitely give all the unemployed people of the future free money. Because of robots or something. We’re still working out the details.

I think I would prefer to have a Wall-E
It will be in 2035, after we make a colony on mars in 2029, 2030 at the latest
Well someone has to be food.
So everyone will be rich in 2 weeks or something?
It's like everyone forgot the lessons learned from the robot uprising of 2132.
Brought to you by: Trust us, bro.
Elon didn't even want to pay Twitter employees severance, i'm not holding out for him being in favor of universal high income
Reminder: Nothing Muskratfucker has promised have ever come to fruition.
:: while rolling on pile of gold like Scrooge McDuck :: "Still working on it!"
You might have to queue for it on Mars.
Plan involves culling most of the world's population
It's not even saying he personally will give money to sustain all those people put out of work by robots. He is saying that somehow, magically, everyone will be rich once the robots are in charge.
Sounds sorta like Communism.
I find it interesting that Nvidia's CEO is approaching the futuristic promises of AI and robotics differently from Musk. Jensen Huang isn't promising free money and a leisure society. In fact, he's saying you'll probably be *busier* in the future.
Well yeah because everything’s gonna be bullshit so we’ll be spending all our time doing the work ourselves and convincing ceos that cost savings gimmick actually sucks
I think he means enslaved.
That sounds terrible, and he should be imprisoned to protect us from his terrible plans.
That fucking sucks
Jensen can eat all dick for his own special set of reasons
Tech Bro dry humps Slavery and there was much rejoicing in the NYTs.
Someone has to correct all the AI mistakes
I want the poorest to be able to afford food, shelter, and health care. If it can't do that, what's the point?
Fucking save me from the “people will be more efficient and do more work as a result” tech overlord fantasies.
Busy correcting all of AI's mistakes.
"After all their idle sophistry, there is, thank God! no means of adding to the wealth of a nation but by adding to the facilities of living: so that wealth is liberty – liberty to seek recreation – liberty to enjoy life – liberty to improve the mind: it is DISPOSABLE TIME, and nothing more."
God. I’m gonna start smoking again. 🙄
we’ll be busy bc @edzitron.com will need so much help podding and writing about this if it spreads
Sam Altman pivoted hilariously when his privately-funded UBI study came back with the expected results (It's great! Do more!). He said, computation is what's valuable, and it's already a medium of exchange among AI companies, so instead of UBI we'll give people Universal Basic Compute!
Well, once they've done away with vaccines and affordable healthcare the population will be so much smaller, so there won't be so many unemployed people, right?
"But until that day comes, if you don't work you're a lazy burden on society who deserves to starve on the streets (but not any streets near where I live and work)"
It's a trap. These are people who refuse to pay for labor. Why would they pay for *no* labor?
I believe they will, but only when it will be impossible to maintain capitalism without UBI, and not a second early. Furthermore, UBI is the a non solution. The only leverage of the working class is to withheld labor.
UBI is a key solution because of the increased leverage it gives to all workers. jacobin.com/2015/12/erik...
Exactly when they can't force us to remain employed to live they have to improve standards for their employees same reason they fight against universal healthcare
UBI lets people withhold their wage slavery in exchange for letting them do with their labor as they choose.
If this tool will be nullified there will be no real opposition to their rule. The real solution is to nationalize the robots
Do you think the management class knows how to assemble, program, and repair the robots?
You're living in the 19th century. Labor is less and less important in production and pretty soon there will be essentially no need for employees, only partners, independent contractors, etc. UBI is part of the solution. Merit based extended income programs are another part.
Maybe. But if there are no poor people, how will you know you are rich?
I don't care about the rich. My goal isn't to eliminate the rich, but to eliminate poverty, eliminate the need to struggle just to survive. If everyone's basic needs are met, then if some have more abundance then so be it.
I don’t mean for you. I meant that this is the only real incentive for Elon to keep peasants alive at all.
I disagree. If everyone has a basic foundation it doesn't eliminate the ability to say that someone else is rich. What eliminating poverty does is eliminate the excuse for government. It is not the "private sector" that needs poverty. It is the "public sector" that does.
“There will be no need for employees, only partners, independent contractors” DO YOU FUCKING HEAR YOURSELF!!?!? I guess there will still be a need for employees, just not ones that you’ll pay benefits or pension. This is why every goddamn worker must unionize.
Real talk, they’re more likely to leave the working class to die once they believe that they have made us obsolete. Look at what’s already happening to coders now that AI is convincing enough to think it can do their job, even after decades of being the lifeblood of big tech.
