I have no idea if they were even in the same sorority, as Roger Stone was claiming
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social) reply parent
For whatever it’s worth, that’s not what I was trying to do. Quite the opposite.
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social) reply parent
Okay here’s the explanation. Roger Stone tweeted Aug 28 that the judge and Lisa Cook are in the same sorority. I have no idea if that’s true or whether that would require recusal. Trump has appointed judges that are hearing his cases (3 to SCOTUS), which seems like a bigger conflict of interest.
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social) reply parent
I think he’s just losing it. But I also always assume that whenever there’s a link or an image it’s not him personally doing the post. He has an assistant who posts and I assume this might be miscommunication between them. Whatever the specifics of the post here, his brain is not working well.

This is his next post. It’s a link to a story about U.S. District Judge Jia Cobb with the headline: “Federal judge blocks Trump effort to expand fast-track deportations” www.politico.com/news/2025/08... Seemingly no connection to the sorority thing he posted earlier.
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social)
I’ve tried googling to figure out what Lisa Cook’s sorority defending her on the mortgage fraud allegations has to do with any judge recusing from a case. Doesn’t seem to be any connection, as far as I can tell.

This all seems reasonable to me. But then I remember Trump is also extracting tens of millions of dollars from media companies and universities through extrajudicial means. There are so many ways for him to accomplish clearly unlawful bullshit by leveraging the power of the state.
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social)
Everything here seems true to me but I wonder how SCOTUS and Trump v Anderson (2024) might fit into this. States are supposed to run their own elections. Colorado correctly identified that Trump was ineligible to appear on their ballots under the 14th Amendment. SCOTUS intervened. Why not again?

I’m just pointing out circumstantial evidence since the thought also crossed my mind it could be an old photo. MAGA influencers were posting photos and videos yesterday of Trump golfing that were actually from June.
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social) reply parent
I think it might be today for several reasons: 1. He wore a white hat today. 2. I did a reverse image search and that photo wasn’t online before today. 3. He typically takes photos standing next to his golf partners. I think he’s seated because his health is bad and doesn’t want visual scrutiny.

You will also never be able to time the market like a billionaire who has data beyond your wildest dreams. Thiel co-founded Palantir.
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social) reply parent
You can make real money in crypto if you buy low and sell high. Unfortunately that’s never how it works out for normal people, who buy when the price is high and hyped up, like it is now. That’s when guys like Thiel cash out and leave everyone else holding the fake money. Rinse, repeat.
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social) reply parent
Here’s the January 2023 story from the Financial Times that revealed Peter Thiel had sold all his crypto before the big crash of 2022
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social) reply parent
I thought about this timing recently because there have been some clearly planted stories about Thiel buying crypto. They even use photos from that same conference in 2022. It would be very funny if they’re hyping crypto while he sold at the top again.
Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social)
I always get a laugh seeing this photo of Peter Thiel because it’s a crypto conference in April 2022. He said crypto was replacing fiat currency. He was then in the process of selling $1.8 billion of crypto before the crash of late 2022. We only learned about the timing of his sales much later.
