Because in order to grant the workers control, you must first have an army capable of seizing it from the wealthy. And that army typically is not willing to give back the power, once they have seized. Good idea in theory, harder to accomplish in reality

Aha! So your worry isn't communism itself, but that our attempts to create it will be co-opted. 100% agree that's a hard problem! But I also think that creating a vision of the future is the first step to solving that hard problem. I'm not convinced that an army is the only way.

I think the effort it takes to explain the difference between good communism and bad communism to a Western audience is not worth the return on investment, in terms of what is achievable towards the end goal of equality. I think the Bernie Sanders style of messaging is more likely to win people

I agree about effort to explain, but I believe that the reason for that is that we are fighting propaganda. I no longer believe welfare concessions within capitalism are sustainable. The power is still concentrated, but the people just got thrown a few bones, which can easily be lost again.
